The 2024 MSHSAA District playoffs are set to start tomorrow, May 10th, for Classes 1-through-4, with the Class 5 and Class 6 bracket kicking off next week. From now until then, teams across the state will compete for an opportunity to capture a District crown and punch their ticket to Sectionals, and ultimately a spot in Ozark. 

Over the next few days, our staff will be previewing each District for Class 5 and Class 6. Here are the Districts we have previewed so far:

Below you’ll learn more about Class 6, District 3 and its outlook with the playoffs set to start next week.

+ SLUH (21-9) concludes their impressive regular season by earning the top seed in this District. The Jr. Billikens swept CBC, DeSmet, and St. Dominic this spring, with wins over Vianney and Westminster Christian as well. Just about everybody they’ve sent out to the mound this spring has been successful, with James Unwin (2025), Drew Figge (2024), Michael Strong (2026), Brady Nolan (2026), and Nolan Nester (2024) all having strong seasons on the hill. Charlie Isom-McCall (2024; Lindenwood) headlines the offense, though others like Evan Pierce (2024) and Henry McDaniels (2024) have produced at the plate in their opportunities. The Jr. Billikens have the talent on the mound to capture this District’s crown. 

+ CBC (20-16) checks in as the No. 2 seed with another 20+ win season under their belt. The Cadets’ offense is a fierce unit with pieces capable of doing damage scattered throughout the lineup. Jake McGhee (2024; Oklahoma) has 22 extra-base hits and .429/.528/.762 triple-slash in a team-high 129 plate appearances this season. Though he missed some time earlier in the spring, Derrick Pitts (2024; Cincinnati) continues to prove himself as a real asset on both sides of the ball - he’s slashing .394/.456/.676 in 85 plate appearances with 12 doubles and 28 RBI, while also playing impact type defense in the outfield. Bryce Edmiston (2025), Logan Winkleman (2024; Lake Land JC), Tyler Ellis (2024; Lindenwood), Conner Suthers (2024), and Anthony Tocco (2025) have all been plenty productive as everyday regulars. The ‘X-Factor’ for the Cadets may be sophomore GT Taylor (2026; Mizzou), as the team leader in home runs (7) is capable of changing any game with one swing. What CBC’s pitching staff is able to accomplish will be the defining factor in this team’s season, but the Cadets have an offense that’s able to compete with anyone on any given day. 

+ A scrappy, well-coached bunch, DeSmet (20-11-1) won this District last spring and earned the third seed with the playoffs set to start this week. The Spartans are playing some of their best ball entering the postseason, having won 10 of their last 11 games. Charlie Wortham (2025; Mississippi State) and Caynen Patterson (2025) have provided the thump in the middle of this lineup. Wortham has 21 extra-base hits, 15 doubles and six home runs, while Patterson has launched five home runs and driven in a team-high 24 RBI. Sylvester Tournier (2025) is slashing .419/.526/.629 with 21 RBI and eight extra-base hits in 78 plate appearances, and Ethan Shupe (2024) is hitting .347 on the year while reaching base at a .473 clip. On the mound, Charlie Brien (2024)  has pitched to a 2.92 ERA in a team-high 36 innings and talented freshman Brandon Ott (2027) has thrown the ball well, posting a 2.66 ERA over 29 innings of work. 

+ Pattonville (14-12) is the fourth seed in this District. The Pirates have a pair of key two-way contributors on this club, starting with Mason Lee (2025; Arkansas State), who’s slashing .338/.440/.493 and has a 1.14 ERA in 30 ⅓ innings on the mound, striking out 66. Kyle Manker (2024) has driven in 18 runs, the second most on the team, and he’s pitched to a 1.37 ERA with 51 strikeouts and just 17 walks in 35 ⅔ frames. Nate Friedrich (2025) is hitting .328 on the season and has served as a reliable piece out of the Pirates’ pen, allowing just two runs in 16 innings on the mound with 21 strikeouts. 

+ Hazelwood West (8-18), Ritenour (6-11), Hazelwood Central (1-9), and Riverview Gardens (0-3) are the last four seeds in this District.
