2015 Spotlight: LHP Michael Plassmeyer (DeSmet)

Michael Plassmeyer (DeSmet) is a long and lanky 6-foot-3, 175-pound left handed pitcher who has smooth mechanics with easy effort and has the ability to throw four pitches for a strike. Plassmeyer is working this off-season to make a run at the state championship. And, as his development continues to grow, so does his college options. We had a chance see how the recruiting process was going for Plassmeyer.
PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?
Plassmeyer: Arkansas, Missouri, Arkansas State, Penn State , Virginia, Bradley Univ., Radford Univ., Creighton, Univ. of Central Florida, University of Pittsburg, Ohio Univ., UCSB, SIU, Univ. of Richmond have expressed interest in me so far.
PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?
Plassmeyer: I visited Arkansas on September 14th and Arkansas State on September 15th visit Missouri on November 30th. I have no other visits planned at this time.
PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
Plassmeyer: I am hoping to attend a school with a competitive baseball program with a coaching staff that can help me maximize my abilities. I am looking for a college with a strong business administration and accounting program. I am looking at all Universities regardless of location.
PBR: How did you do your sophomore year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?
Plassmeyer: I pitched 43.3 innings as a sophomore with a 1.13 ERA. I had 39 strikeouts, 9 walks, and have up 41 hits, my record ended up at 5-1 for the season. Our team lost in our district semi-final 6-5 in 10 innings.
PBR: What are you goals for your junior/senior season?
Plassmeyer: I think that our DeSmet team will do well this year and has a shot to go far in playoff. My goal is for our team to make it to the final four in the Missouri State playoffs. Personally, I would like to have an ERA below 1.5, pitch over 50 innings, and have less than 15 walks this season.
PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?
Plassmeyer: I play for the St. Louis Gamers for both summer and fall.
PBR: Do you play any other sports?
Plassmeyer: I do not play any other sport.
PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?
Plassmeyer: I have not taken the ACT yet, my GPA is 3.7.
