Top 10 Stories of 2023: No. 9 Team Wisconsin at the 2023 Future Games

At the end of each calendar year, the PBR Wisconsin staff reflects back on the 10 most intriguing headlines that surrounded the baseball scene in the Badger State. Through the end of the month, we will break down the most impactful storylines from an eventful 2023 campaign, ending with our No. 1 story revealed Dec. 30.

Team Wisconsin once again represented well at the Prep Baseball Future Games at the LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, Georgia this past summer. Each state had the chance to showcase some of their best uncommitted talent within the 2025 class in the Future Games, and the 2027 and and 2028 classes in the Junior Future Games. Since late July, 13 members of Team Wisconsin’s squad have committed to play at the next level – all of which to Division 1 universities.

The group drew challenging opponents in Team Michigan, Team Select and Team Missouri over the course of the weekend. However, multiple stars emerged on Team Wisconsin – once again putting the Badger State on the prospect map.

After a successful workout day for many of the athletes, they took to the playing field to demonstrate their skill set in front of scouts from all across the United States.

It started in game one for Team Wisconsin, as they took on Team Michigan. RHP Sawyer Deering (Kimberly, 2025; Tennessee commit), arguably the best arm in Wisconsin’s 2025 class, put on a show in the first two innings of action. Deering rushed his fastball up to 91 mph, and struck out three batters in the process.

Left-handed athletes followed up Deering in quality performances – including the likes of INF Jack Zeller (Indian Trail, 2025), INF Jack Lutz (Whitnall, 2025; Indiana State), LHP Ryan Brennecke (Oconomowoc, 2025; South Carolina) and LHP Brolan Frost (Elkhorn Area, 2025; Iowa).

Zeller got Team Wisconsin’s offense on the board first, right after Lutz smacked a ground-rule double to the pull-side. Zeller and Lutz were two bats that found themselves on base numerous times – proving to be tough outs at the plate.

Brennecke and Frost each threw a scoreless inning in the first game of the series. Both arms got another opportunity to toss later in the weekend, and found success in different styles. Brennecke – a hard-throwing left-hander – sat in the mid-to-upper-80s throughout his appearances. He incorporated a breaking ball as well to keep hitters off balance.

Frost stuck to his bread and butter in his outings for Team Wisconsin – avoiding barrels and drawing weak contact at a high rate. While not striking out opponents consistently, Frost remained extremely effective with a three-pitch mix to navigate lineups.

Throughout the rest of the weekend, INF Preston Yaucher (Edgewood, 2025; Penn State) shined on the big stage. While manning the shortstop position, Yaucher impressed in the final game by making a diving play in the hole. Offensively, the right-handed batter showcased a mix of power, speed and quality bat-to-ball skills that eventually earned him interest from Penn State a couple of months later.

UTL Carter Kutz (Hartford Union, 2025; Nebraska), OF Trevor Vande Hey (Wrightstown, 2025; Iowa) and INF/RHP Eli Bryant (Beaver Dam, 2025; Kent State) all turned heads with their power during live action.

Kutz – as he did all spring and summer – hit a home run over the left field wall in game two against Team Select. After a solid fall and a recent commitment to Nebraska, Kutz found himself back in the No. 1 spot in Wisconsin’s 2025 class.

Bryant performed well on the mound during the first game for Team Wisconsin, but found his rhythm at the plate in the final day of action. The righty elevated a pitch deep to left field to get the scoring started against Team Missouri – showcasing his strength in an athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame.

Vande Hey followed that up a couple of innings later with a home run for himself. He banged a fastball off of a metal crate in left-center to ignite Team Wisconsin’s offense versus Team Missouri. His electric showcase numbers, in addition to his in-game performance, elevated him to No. 2 in Wisconsin’s 2025 class after a strong 2023.

RHP Ethan Bauerschmidt (Tremper, 2025; Penn State), RHP Adam Urban (Wauwautosa West, 2025; Minnesota), LHP Adam Kudronowicz (Mukwonago, 2025; Central Florida), RHP Loren Georger (Appleton West, 2025; Baylor) and RHP Jaxon Clayton (Brookfield Central, 2025) all emerged as mid-to-upper-80s arms with quality complementary pitches in each of their arsenals. Each showcased the ability to get outs consistently at the Future Games, and continued to do so outside of Georgia, too.

Behind the dish, C Marek Bolson (Oconomowoc, 2025; Kent State) was constantly on base for Team Wisconsin – finishing 3-for-6 with a double on the weekend. Two uncommitted catchers remain available from Team Wisconsin’s roster in C Terek Verhage (Monona Grove, 2025) and C Peter Visconti II (St. Joseph, 2025). Both backstops stood out on the defensive end of the ball, and managed to find success offensively as well.

OF’s Nathan Schopf (Oak Creek, 2025) and Braylen White (Brown Deer, 2025) also remain uncommitted after quality 2023 campaigns.

Team Wisconsin created many bright spots in their outings in Georgia – including many of which managed to find their future homes at the collegiate level in the months afterwards.

JUNIOR FUTURE GAMES

Our staff witnessed multiple future standouts on the diamond, many of which earned spots on our Initial 2027 Rankings, throughout the Prep Baseball Junior Future Games, as Team Wisconsin brought down a competitive mix of hitters and pitchers in Georgia.

C Jack Spielmann (Milton, 2027) led the team in hits with four throughout the weekend of action – providing easy power from the left of the plate.

A pair of his teammates in Georgia – OF Levi Boivin (Neenah, 2027) and MIF Jonny Deets (Aquinas, 2027) – tallied three hits apiece to spark Team Wisconsin’s offense. Deets was especially noteworthy on the defensive end – showcasing his smooth movements and arm strength at the shortstop position.

As for the arms, RHP Dylan Schreiber (Waukesha West, 2027) put together a couple of clean innings in a lean, projectable 6-foot-5, 170-pound frame. He rushed his fastball up to 83 mph and coasted in the low-80s throughout his outing.

RHP/INF Kyle Rogosienski (Muskego, 2027) did not quite get the results on paper, but showcased a quality skill set that will continue to shine as he enters his first high school season. The same could be said for C/RHP Grady Cheever (Germantown, 2027), as each prospect took advantage of the showcase day to illustrate their prowess on the diamond. Both of which earned top-10 spots in the first release of the state’s 2027 rankings.

Team Wisconsin may not have found the success they were looking for throughout the weekend, but showed moments of excellence and solid play to advance them into their high school careers in the spring.
