PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?
Watland: The schools that have expressed interest to me are Northern State University, University of St. Thomas, University of Minnesota Duluth, Luther college, Gustavus, St Scholastica, University of Minnesota Crookston, Iowa Western Community College, and Bismarck State College
PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?
Watland: I have visited Northern State University, University of Minnesota Duluth, and University of St. Thomas.
PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)
Watland: I’m looking for a school that has engineering for a degree.
PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year?
Watland: Highlights from junior year would be beating Duluth East in High school and Legion playoffs and beating Moorhead during school ball.
PBR: What are your goals for this year?
Watland: My goal for this year is to get up to 90 mph on the mound and go to state for High school and legion teams.
PBR: Do you play any other sports?
Watland: I do not play any other sports at the moment but played hockey through sophomore year then quit to play baseball year-round.
PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?
Watland: My ACT is a 21 and GPA 3.89
Scouting Report
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #94 ranked player in MN 2020 class. Projectable build on mound, compact arm action, some effort on release, higher arm slot. Fastball was 83-86 mph with late arm-side life. Solid/avg. 12/6 curveball for strikes. Cutting action on changeup with avg. fade. 7.60 runner. Crouched stance, slight shoulder load, flashes of pop in bat, fly ball and line drive hitter, works mostly pull side of field, 87 mph exit velocity. Solid range, tends to move flat footed, hands and glove are avg./solid, long arm with above avg. carry to bag, 86 mph arm across infield.
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.39 runner. Slightly closed stance. Toe tap and body load back. Aggressive swing. Flat swing plane. Middle approach with line drive contact. Flashed pop with strength in barrel. 95 mph exit velocity. IF- Choppy foot work and attacks ball. Stiff glove and flips glove out to field. 79 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy. On mound- Balanced and good direction down mound. Slight stab behind back. Quick arm and ball jumps out of hand. Throws from a ¾ arm slot. Fastball is 80-83 mph topping at 85 mph with arm side run. Curveball has 11/5 break with big shape thrown at 61-63 mph. Change-up is average at 67-73 mph.
