Scouting Report

6/17/19

5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher. #18 ranked player in MN 2020 class. Simple compact delivery, lands inline to plate with solid extension to plate. Hides ball from hitter. Quick arm out front with quality hand speed. Bulldog mentality on mound and attacks strike zone with high percentage of strikes with 3 pitch mix. Fastball was 86-88 mph with late life to both sides of plate. Mixes CB and SL with slider being better pitch with late 10/4 break for strikes. Late arm-side life to changeup with above avg. run and fade.

 

6/17/18-  5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting pitcher. Smaller compact frame. Clean arm action, lands inline to catcher, has solid extension to plate with finish. Fastball was 79-83 mph with life and is sneaky quick jumping on hitter. 11/5 shape on breaking ball, slower velocity, with flashes of late break. Changeup is straight with flat action to the plate.

 

3/17/18- 5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short turn into medium balance point, short on backside and arm unravels out front, lands slightly across body, and has tempo to delivery. Fastball was 80-82 mph with varying action to plate. Throws a well above avg. curveball with large break and tight 11/5 spin. Solid fade on changeup thrown for consistent strikes. 7.4 runner. Tall open stance, strides square, easy hand load, stiff legs in swing cut off lower half, mid/away approach, line drive and fly ball contact, flashed hard contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Plays through ball, avg. footwork and quickness, avg. hands and actions, above avg. arm with carry and accuracy, 84 mph arm strength from outfield.

 

3/17/19

5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.15 runner.  Upright and slightly open stance.  Strides to square with minimal hand load.  Average swing.  Mid/opp approach with line drive contact.  Consistent barrel contact.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet and routes to field.  Transitions well in to throws.  Solid glove and fields ball clean.  89 mph arm strength with above average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Quicker tempo delivery.  Lands and throws across body.  Arm is quick and aggressive.  Ball jumps on hitter from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight at 86-87 mph.  Slider has good action an average fell thrown at 73-75 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 76-78 mph. 



 

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Thompson: Xavier, SDSU, NDSU, Mankato, Concordia St. Paul, Minnesota-Duluth, Wayne State, NIACC, and Iowa Western

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?

Thompson: I have visited SDSU and NIACC, I plan to visit Mankato, Concordia, NDSU, and Iowa Western

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

 Thompson:  Not really, I’m just trying to find a school that is interested in me and is a school that I like and can see myself developing at. 

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your sophomore year?

Thompson: Sophomore year I got called up to Varsity mid-way through the season and my first outing was against Minnetonka. Pitching in sections was also a really fun experience. 

PBR: What are your goals for this year?

Thompson: My goal is to improve velocity and develop my off-speed pitches

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Thompson: No 

PBR: What is your ACT and GPA?

Thompson: ACT 26, GPA 3.6
