The summer of 2017 is upon us, and there are many prospects ready to make their mark on it. College seasons are approaching tournament time, and coaches will soon be packing their bags to travel the country in hopes of finding the best players to lead them to future successes. This week, On the Hunt, highlights six uncommitted players from the 2019-2020 classes who have a chance to have great summers. Players from Colorado, Indiana, Minnesota, and Ohio are featured including a 2020 right-hander who is already reaching into the low nineties with his fastball.
Charez Butcher RHP / Kokomo, IN / 2020Rankings State Rank:1 POS:1 Overall Rank:12 POS:5
Go ahead and jot down Butcher’s name as one to follow closely throughout the next few years. You will likely be hearing about him a lot. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder still looks like he may grow another inch or two, and he has the wide-shouldered frame that will allow him to pack on a substantial amount of weight/muscle in the future. Add to the fact that he already runs his fastball up to 93 mph with a loose arm and quick hand speed, and he has a chance to be a special pitcher in the near future. What really stands out about Butcher’s arm is just how effortless he is able to produce the high velocity. He almost looks bored while going through his delivery before the ball jumps out of his hand with a still head and repeated, ¾ arm slot. Butcher takes some velocity off his two-seam fastball in hopes for more movement, and has a developing breaking ball that will likely morph into a slider in the future. Overall, Butcher’s ceiling is quite high, and he will be drawing crowds to all of his outings this summer.
