The PBR MN Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 22, 2017. The event was held at the West St. Paul Sports Dome in West St. Paul, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2018-2021 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

Today we begin releasing our player evaluations from the event. Below are the evaluations for the catchers in attendance.

Taking the top spot for catchers was 2021 Sam Hunt from St. Louis Park. Hunt is a switch-hitting catcher who is currently ranked #46 nationally in the PBR Overall for 2021 grads. The freshman displays well above average skills behind the plate and in the batter's box; possessing advanced mechanics, a strong arm, with accuracy to the bag, along with a polished approach at plate consistently creating hard contact with projectable pop in the bat.

5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.64 runner. Open stance, strides to square, slight leg kick trigger, consistent solid contact, flashes hard line drives, gap to gap hitter, uses hands well in swing, 93 mph exit velocity. Good weight shift behind plate, centers ball to body, works underneath baseball well, clean exchange, short arm stroke, solid footwork through plate, online throws, short to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.07-2.10 pop times.

Nick Friedges, C, South St. Paul, 2020
5-foot-8, 145-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 8.32 60 time. Open stance, strides to square, shoulder load, some looseness to hands, shows ability to use gaps, line drive and fly ball hitter, 74 mph exit velocity. Shows footwork, works through plate, slight hitch in arm action, avg. carry to bag with above avg. accuracy, has flexibility behind plate, needs additional strength to hold pitches in zone, 70 mph arm strength with 2.27-2.34 pop times.

Henry Gathje, C, Chatfield, 2021
5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.47 runner. Crouched stance, leg kick trigger into body load, hitchy rhythm in hands, off-time with trigger, spray contact across field, 71 mph exit velocity. Works around plate, long exchange, some stiffness in throwing, avg. accuracy to bag, raw mechanics but should continue to improve, 67 mph arm strength with 2.5-2.52 pop times.

6-foot-2, 190-pound switch hitting catcher. #46 ranked player nationally in PBR Overall for 2021 class. 7.53 runner. Similar swing mechanics from both sides of plate. Shows advanced feel for barrel with extension through contact, gap to gap hitter with above avg. pop, has fluidity and rhythm in swing, 84 mph exit velocity. Shows soft hands receiving, works underneath ball, shifts body well side to side centering baseball, has quickness to block, quick feet and short exchange, has present arm strength, throws are online to bag with carry and accuracy, 78 mph arm strength with 1.9-1.97 pop times.

Drew Lingen, RHP/C, Rochester John Marshall, 2021
6-foot-2, 178-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Projectable build for age. 8.08 runner. Open stance, strides to square, slight hitch in load, creates above avg. bat speed, gap to gap hitter with consistent solid contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Average receiver and blocker, shows quick feet behind plate, quick release from lower arm slot, avg. accuracy to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.1-2.27 pop times. Has room for development and should continue to make progression. Follow in 2021 class.

Daniel Marxen, C, Maple Grove, 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.91 runner. Square stance, slight collapse at contact, stays on and through baseball, hard line drive contact, gap to gap approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Narrow receiving stance, avg. glove, tends to lose low strike, solid footwork, length to exchange, stands upright to throw, inconsistent arm slot, avg. accuracy to bag, 74 mph arm strength with 2.21-2.27 pop times.

Matt Olive, C/RHP, Blake School, 2020
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.62 runner. Square stance, body load with leg kick trigger, quiet head, solid rhythm, slight lift through swing plane, mid/pull approach with solid bat speed, 89 mph exit velocity. Shows good hands receiving, solid mobility, clean footwork behind plate, short exchange with appropriate arm action, avg. accuracy short of bag, 76 mph arm strength with 2.13-2.21 pop times.
