Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase: Outfield Evaluations

Prep Baseball Report Minnesota held the Unsigned Senior Showcase in Blaine, MN at the National Sports Center on October 19th, 2014. The event was for 2015 graduates with Minnesota and North Dakota players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

OUTFIELDERS
D’Anthony Beckman, OF, Highland Park, 2015
6-foot-1, 175-pound outfielder. 6.94 60 time. Right-handed hitter with athletic actions in box. Uses a gradual load with good balance. Stays short to contact with line drive approach to gaps. 76 mph exit velocity. Long strides and fluidity in the outfield. Shows good hands and feet with aggressive routes to ball. Arm works well; throws are true and online to target for left-handed thrower. 86 mph velocity from outfield. Interesting prospect with continued development in college.
Ryne Bigelow, OF, West Fargo(ND), 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder. 7.35 60 time. Right-handed hitter with open stance. Strides into contact with rotational swing. Hands tend to drift down before initiating swing causing uphill swing plane. 68 mph exit velocity. Shows average- ok actions in outfield. Flashes of fast twitch actions with body and arm. Fields balls on ground with two hands effecting balance and direction. Arm works well. Throws have life and carry. 78 mph velocity from outfield.
Bailey Melz, OF, Minnetonka, 2015
5-foot-9, 155-pound outfielder. 7.53 60 time. Right-handed hitter with linear lower half. Inverted C load into slight uphill swing plane. Will be out front at times. 69 mph exit velocity. Quick feet and appropriate routes on groundballs. Looks to be an above average defender in outfield. Fields with aggressiveness and fluidity. 1 piece arm action from outfield. Average carry. Accurate throws. 72 mph velocity from outfield.
Tony Nichols, OF, West Fargo, 2015
5-foot-8, 150-pound outfielder.7.04 60 time. Left-handed hitter with slightly closed stance. Shoulder load with front heel turn trigger. Swing is clean and smooth. Shows good balance after contact. Line drive swing plane. Bat is rotational through zone. 71 mph exit velocity. Good first step quickness with appropriate routes and angles. Pursues ball with aggressive approach. Fields out front and low to ground with confidence and fluidity. Mid-3/4 arm slot with some arm quickness. Fast twitch actions in field and at plate.
Bransen Petersen, OF, Saint James, 2015
5-foot-10, 145-pound outfielder. 7.19 60 time. Right-handed hitter with open stance. Strides across body to contact. Low hand set with cocked back elbow. Has level swing plane through zone with early rollover at contact. 68 mph exit velocity. Moves athletically to baseball. Good hands and feet fielding. Shoulder tilt on throws. Arm is fast enough to get out front on throws with carry and accuracy. Good actions in outfield. 78 mph velocity from outfield. Defensive actions are exceptional.
