PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Mahmood: When I visited Tulane I felt right at home with the coaches. The facilities and stadium at Tulane are state of the art, especially their locker room. A big factor in my decision was the academics at Tulane, with some of the top-rated programs in the country, it was an easy decision. The last piece was the location. After growing up in the south, I knew I wanted to go back for college and New Orleans is the perfect city. 

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mahmood: I was considering San Diego, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Yale. 

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Mahmood: They first saw me at the PBR Futures games, then again when they came up to MN for one of my high school games. My relationship was built over the phone and was furthered on campus during my visits. 

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Mahmood: Yes, I am glad the process is over and it’s nice to have the security of knowing you have a spot, but that’s not going to stop me from working hard. In fact now I need to work harder to get a chance to play my first year. Then again, it’s a weird feeling going from calling multiple coaches every week to only one about once a month. 

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Mahmood: The way the athletes are treated at Tulane, between the athlete cafeteria to the time and money put into the facilities, is what really put me over the top. 

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Mahmood: My dad has helped me more than anyone in this process. From helping me figure what I want to be and my travel partner to showcases and schools. 

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Mahmood: I didn’t really expect much coming into it, but everything picked up really fast and ended really fast. I guess what I would say is make sure you enjoy the feeling before it’s over. 

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Mahmood: Everything is based on my work ethic and performance in the fall season, but I’m hoping to play right away in the freshman season and so are my coaches. 

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Mahmood: My most memorable moment was pitching in the state championship game at Target field with my teammates at Benilde St. Margaret’s. 

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Mahmood: I played against many good kids this summer most of which I don’t know their names, but the best kid I’ve played against in Minnesota is Cody Kelly.
