PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Grindahl: The two main reasons were because of the coaches and the competition. The coaches there are great people, really knowledgeable about all aspects of the game and player development, while having a family feel culture. Then they play against some of the best teams in the country. That is what I’ve wanted to do is play against the best of the best, since that is crucial in making me the best player I can be.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Grindahl: Minnesota, Creighton, and Indiana State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Grindahl: Coach O’Conner first saw me on the PBR website when he came across my video. He gave me a call that day and said that he loved what he saw in my video and that he’d keep in touch. Then after about a month and a half of taking he invited me up for a visit and after the visit I just knew that it was the perfect fit for me.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Grindahl: Yeah definitely, although the process at times was really fun it was also extremely stressful since a majority of my interest came very late into the fall and I just felt super rushed with getting in visits.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Grindahl: Definitely the coaching staff. That was the most important thing for me going through the process because I want to become the best player I can be and possibly be able to move on to the next level. I know that Coach O’Connor and Coach Furlong were the best choice for me in order to make that dream possible.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Grindahl: That would have to be my Mom. She has invested so much time and money into making this possible. She’s been the one who’s paid for showcases, tournaments, training sessions while also getting me to all of those things.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Grindahl: I was thinking it was going to be exciting, which it was, but I did not expect it to also be so stressful at the same time. Overall it wasn’t really difficult but there was a lot of time invested into going to see all of the colleges that I wanted to.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Grindahl: The coaches said that I could definitely be able to make an impact as a freshman, but I really need to work hard in the summer and in the offseason in order for that to happen. They want me to be a two-way player playing shortstop and possibly either closing or being a set up guy.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Grindahl: Hitting a walk off grand slam in Phoenix my sophomore year. Or winning the Legion section tournament the summer of my sophomore year.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?   

Grindahl: Corbin Carrol.
