2016 OUTLOOK
"The Sabers are coming off a very successful first season in the South Suburban Conference, where they surprised a few people by walking away with the conference championship and a 13-4 record. Although the Sabers lost some important players from that championship team, they do return 8 players who hope to continue the past success of the program (the Sabers have a 47-13 conference record, .780 winning percentage, over the past 4 seasons). The Sabers return their ace and honorable-mention all-conference selection from last season in Drew Hanbury (6-3 record, 2.42 ERA). Peter Hagstrom also pitched important games for the Sabers last season, and they’ll also look to junior left-hander Chris Isensee, who pitched some varsity innings late last season after being the ace of the JV squad. The pitchers will be hurling to returning all- conference catcher Matt Theis, who batted clean-up all season last year for the Sabers. The Sabers were probably hurt the most through the graduation of their top 3 outfielders but return some good speed in Travis Larsen, Ryan Rentz, and Booker Coplin, who all have played some varsity outfield over the last 1-2 years. Logan Becker and Hanbury return with some varsity experience in the middle infield, Matt Heiling with varsity experience at DH/1B, and Hagstrom with varsity experience at 3B. Larsen has also played some catcher and 3B the past two varsity seasons. The Sabers have some solid senior contenders returning after a successful 2015 JV season: Mason Gregoire, Sam Loraas, Eric Nicholas, Jacob Poppitz, and Pehrnel Poppitz." Head Coach Tom Schleper
