Prep Baseball Report

This Weekend's Top Uncommitted: Class of 2026

By Andy Sroka
Managing Editor, Scouting

This Fourth of July weekend, Prep Baseball Tournaments will be stationed across the country and we’re spending some time today previewing the top-ranked players coming to our events. We’ve previewed the loaded Midwest Premier Super 17 event in a separate piece, as it’ll be full of the very best 17U prospects stretched across the Great Plains and the Midwest.

The prospects below will be headed elsewhere, which include the following tournaments, listed below:

🔎 TOP-RANKED UNCOMMITTED: CLASS OF 2026

State (PA) Rank: No. 7

+ Ryan Fuller, RHP (Avon Grove HS, PA):

Tournament: New Jersey Summer Championships | Travel Club: Pa Rebels

“From the PA Rebels Scout Day in February: 'Got the day started with some gas. High on the scouts radar, continues to improve. Wiry frame, more in the tank. Advanced command; wipeout slider was impressive. Excited to see where he lands.'

Earlier this month, at the PA State Games, he was up to 90.2 mph on an efficient fastball that spins at nearly 2,300 rpm on average. The spin translates to his slider, 77-79 mph, that reached a near-2,600 rpm max at that same event. He's a former Future Gamer listed at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, and he remains uncommitted – and he's one of the top uncommitted prospects playing across our PBT events this weekend.”

(2/24/24)

State (MI) Rank: No. 11

+ Kellen Ford, OF/RHP (Hopkins HS, MI):

Tournament: Western Michigan Limited Series | Travel Club: D Las Vegas

“Ford is headed to the Future Games later this month where he'll represent Team Michigan, but before then, he'll be appearing at the Western Michigan Limited Series this weekend. Earlier this month, Ford ran a 6.64 in the 60 to kick off a fantastic all-around showing at Michigan's Top Prospect Games. He reached a 92 mph high from the outfield as well, and our Blast sensor was a huge fan of his, as he produced hand speed, bat speed, and rotational acceleration from the right side, and at high marks.”

State (WI) Rank: No. 11

+ Chance Ruby, SS/RHP (Wilmot Union HS, WI):

Tournament: Wisconsin Open | Travel Club: GTS - Class of 2025 (Green)

“From a performance earlier this spring for his high school in April: 'Currently ranked No. 12 in Wisconsin class of 2026. The right-handed hitting infielder got the start at shortstop and was slotted in the leadoff spot for the team. Ruby sets up in a tall and narrow stance with his hand held high. Works into a smooth load into the back leg, with a short gliding stride to the pitcher. Ruby has quick, athletic hands that allow him to hit the ball to all fields. During his third at bat, Ruby went the other way for a single and later advanced to second after reading the throw. Ruby jumped on the mound to close out the game, 1.2 scoreless innings pitched with two hits and struck out one. A deliberate delivery that works parallel to home and finishes in an athletic fielding stance. The arm plays from a loose low 3/4 slot which allows his pitches to deceive hitters. Ruby attacked hitters using a fastball that played mainly straight but had some armside movement occasionally, sitting 82-84 mph and topped at 85 mph. Backing the fastball was the slider on a 11/5 lateral movement, coming in at 71-72 mph.'

Ruby will be on Team Wisconsin at the 2024 Future Games later this month."

(3/16/24)

State (HI) Rank: No. 13

+ Aycen Fernandez, RHP/OF (Saint Louis HS, HI):

Tournament: PBT West Cup | Travel Club: Kawainui Baseball

“Fernandez earned a spot on the first-ever Team Hawaii at the Future Games later this month. Before he touches down in Atlanta, he'll be at this weekend's PBT West Cup in Arizona. He's a primary pitcher with real athleticism and arm speed who is reportedly in the mid- to upper-80s, and he knows how to spin a breaking ball.”

State (WI) Rank: No. 14

+ Matthew Hietpas, RHP/OF (Appleton North HS, WI):

Tournament: Wisconsin Open | Travel Club: Impact Sports Academy Royal 2026

“From a performance at the Green Bay ID in February: '[Hietpas] is an athletically built 5-foot-10, 173 pounded two-way prospect who continued to impress our staff during Saturday’s event. Starting on the mound, Hietpas utilized a clean and simple delivery, paired with a loose arm to deliver fastballs upwards of 90.4 mph that played with over 16” of carry through the zone, too. Hietpas also showed impressive feel for a curveball with sharp 10/4 tilt that already has the makings of a quality out-pitch. His changeup was delivered out of the same window as his fastball and played with fade/depth to his arm side while sitting in the low-80s. Offensively, Hietpas took a clean and impressive round of BP. From a well sequenced and compact swing, Hietpas consistently hit line drives to all parts of the field, with his hardest one registering in at 92.5 mph and he averaged 85 mph, too. Defensively, his athleticism is really one display, as he is a quick lateral mover on both the infield and outfield, pairing it with plenty of arm strength for both. Hietpas has continued to make big strides to his game over the past couple of years and is certainly a highly talented name-to-know inside of the state’s sophomore class.'

Hietpas will represent Team Wisconsin at the 2024 Future Games as well.”

(2/24/24)

State (WI) Rank: No. 16

+ Carson Hawley, OF/RHP (Bay Port HS, WI):

Tournament: Wisconsin Open | Travel Club: Impact Sports Academy Royal 2026

“Hawley is Hietpas' teammate, and he too will be in attendance at the Wisconsin Open this weekend; from the Green Bay ID: '[Hawley] is an athletic two-way player with strong tools across the board. Hawley sets up with a wide base and high hands, landing centered on-time with good separation. His quick hands and direct path create good leverage and bat speed out front, resulting in plus power. Defensively, Hawley showed athletic actions and reached 90 mph from the outfield, the third-best mark of the day. His 7.14 60-yard time was among the top 10 performers on Saturday. On the mound, the sophomore has a rhythmic delivery with a medium-high leg tuck, landing slightly crossfire in a repeatable and athletic manner. His arm was on-time and quick, a high-¾ slot that led to good velocity - Hawley topped at 86.4 mph with carry. The curveball has 11/5 break with tremendous late depth, a pitch thrown with firmness at 76-77 mph. The changeup has some depth and fade at 79-80 mph, a pitch thrown with fastball arm speed and good feel.'”

(2/24/24)

State (ON) Rank: No. 16

+ Lucas Cordeiro, SS/RHP (Micahel Power HS, ON):

Tournament: New York Summer Championships | Travel Club: Etobicoke Rangers

“Cordeiro is ranked inside Ontario's top-20 overall for his simple, compact right-handed swing. He also offers above-average infield actions, and he's equipped with big arm strength too (88 mph); it's an athletic, quick arm that plays on the go.”

(3/29/24)

State (OH) Rank: No. 17

+ Johnathan Brenner, RHP/OF (Cardinal Mooney HS, OH):

Tournament: Mid American Classic | Travel Club: Release- Edwards

“From February's Release Scout Day: '[Brenner is listed at] 6-foot-5, 230-pound projectable physical build. (72.1 mph bat speed average). (20.7 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced tall stance with a rhythmic load, then uses a controlled small leg kick. Had a loose swing plane, explosive bat speed and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with tons of loud contacts. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Advanced on the mound, had a high ¾ arm angle and a clean arm action with good consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Tall balance point with even in line shoulders. Lands square with a clean finish. (Max spin 2130; Avg 1988).'”

(2/17/24)

State (MI) Rank: No. 17

+ Tristan Turner, SS/3B (Brother Rice HS, MI):

Tournament: Western Michigan Limited Series | Travel Club: D Las Vegas

“Brenner showed big tools at June's Top Prospect Games in Michigan, where he ran a 7.04 and he went on to produce some eye-catching numbers offensively in BP. He averaged an exit speed of nearly 89 mph, with a 97.2 max, launched at an estimated distance of 358 feet. He's another Michigan prospect on this list who will be at this year's Future Games, repping his state.”

State (VA) Rank: No. 18

+ Jalen German, RHP/1B (Trinity Episcopal HS, VA):

Tournament: Mid-Atlantic Summer Championships | Travel Club: VA Seminoles-Phillips

“Few prospects on this list offer the kind of upside that German contains – and on both sides of the ball. German is primary pitcher, and he just appeared at this month's VA/DC State Games where he was 86-88 mph (88.9 max) with his heavy fastball that generated large horizontal movement (19.0 inches max). The downer slider shows well and the changeup has serious out-pitch potential, as it plays off his fastball effectively.

At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, he fits the starter's mold prototypically, but he brings next-level traits from the middle of the lineup too. He swings an aggressive, controlled right-handed bat that has yielded top-of-the-scale bat speed metrics, and his size/strength has naturally helped him use those skills to generate triple-digit EVs, too. German will be at the 2024 Future Games too.”

(4/19/24)

State (OH) Rank: No. 19

+ Zander Triplett, OF/RHP (Louisville HS, OH):

Tournament: Mid American Classic | Travel Club: Release- Edwards

“From Ohio's 2023 State Games in October: '6-foot-1, 190-pound. (66.3 mph bat speed average). (21.9 mph hand speed average). Starts in an athletic stance with a tight controlled load, then uses a small leg kick. Had a level swing plane, developing bat speed and good extension on his finish. Pull side approach. When throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 88 mph.'”

State (OH) Rank: No. 20

+ Grant Lashutka, RHP/SS (St. Edward HS, OH):

Tournament: Mid American Classic | Travel Club: Release- Edwards

“From February's Release Scout Day: '6-foot-3, 195-pound physical projectable frame. (66.7 mph bat speed average). (20.1 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced active stance with a rhythmic load, then used a big leg kick. Bat speed is explosive, displays an uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. During his round he produced loud contact and found multiple barrels. Aggressive approach. Advanced In the infield, had in control rhythmic footwork, sure hands, and a quick packing exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used athletic slot and a compact arm action.'”
