The Black Team at the Unsigned Senior Games had good talent overall and had several good performances.  Take a look a complete analysis of the players and how they did.

 

PJ Piesko, LHP, Oxford HS, 2014

Piesko pitched well at Unsigned Senior Games tallying three strikeouts.  The slender lefty has yet to make a big velocity jump although his arm works well leading us to believe he will.  Had good down angle and went away from arm side well.  Smoother delivery with quick arm. Definite follow.  Expect him to make a jump next spring.

 

Daiki Nishioka, MIF, West Bloomfield HS, 2014

Nishioka had a good showing overall.  One of the fastest risers on our board.  He is not very big at 5-foot-6, 145-pounds but the kid can play.  7.22 runner. Switch hitter and fundamentally sound.  Makes all of the plays including several nice plays in the game. Best projects as a second baseman.  Picked up a double in game play.  Gets down the line well. 

 

Hayden Modaff, OF, Grand Haven HS, 2014

Modaff arguably had the best round of BP at the event.  He lifted the ball with relative ease generating good backspin. He was the only one to hit one out of the large park.  Pull heavy but has juice in the bat. Got to extension extremely well.  Explosive bat speed.

 

Jon Haley, OF, Dexter HS, 2014

Haley has a smaller compact frame but is offensively minded.  Threw the ball well from the OF (76mph).  Ball was online with some carry. Showed good footwork and played through the ball well.  At the plate showed good gap pop. Steeper swing path. Picked up a base hit in the games. 

 

Cameron Charbonneau, RHP, Utica Eisenhower HS, 2014

Pitched well at Unsigned Senior Games. Not the hardest thrower right now but we expect he will see an uptick in velocity next spring.  Needs a bit more time to physically mature.  Smaller school pitcher or perhaps JUCO to give him the necessary time.  Fastball ranged 77-79mph. Produced a lot of groundballs. 

 

Tyler Waslawski, OF/RHP, Traverse City St. Francis HS, 2014

Waslawksi swings the bat well. Has some looseness in his swing can can get extended.  Picked up a basehit in the games and went the other way.  On the mound he threw a clean inning and used all three pitches, throwing them all for strikes.

 

Ted Walton, LHP, Dexter HS, 2014

Walton continues to improve.  Fastball may not jump off of the page (77mph) but this lefty throws strikes.  Arm works well.  Best suited for a smaller school or perhaps a JUCO.  Walton is one to follow for next spring to see if his velocity will make the necessary jump.  Throws plenty of strikes and competes well.

 

Brennan Vaughn, OF/C, Schoolcraft HS, 2014

His arm is his biggest asset. Can play a corner outfield spot and his arm showed well (86mph) on this day.  Played through the ball well.  Behind the plate, threw a runner out at 3B.  Above-average arm strength all around.  At the plate shows two-part line drive swing.  Quickly rising on our board.  Definite follow.

 

Ben Schaap, RHP, West Ottawa HS, 2014

Schaap was one of our favorite pitchers.  He threw the ball extremely well at Unsigned Senior Games.  Fastball ranged between 79-82mph but he did a good job of changing speeds. Has good feel for his breaking ball and can throw it at two different speeds.  He also showcased a good change that he threw for strikes at will.  There is a little bit of funk in his delivery but he is able to repeat.

 

Steven Scott, 3B/Everest Collegiate HS, 2014

Scott is a potential two-way player for the right smaller school.  Projects best as a third baseman in the infield.  On the mound shows good promise.  Fastball ranged primarily between 81-83 mph and touched 84mph.  Arm works well from H3/4 slot.  Fastball is straighter with cut at times.  Breaking ball has tight spin and 11/5 action.  (72-73mph).  In the infield he has solid actions.  Good laterally.  Strong arm across the diamond (79mph).  Throws were accurate and had carry.  At the plate he was athletic and showed good pop.  Fast bat.  One of the best surprises of Unsigned Senior Games. Must see.

 

Chase Carpenter, SS/MIF, Bronson HS, 2014

Carpenter had himself a weekend.  Carpenter was one of the best performers in the games.  The middle infielder showed good actions and made several nice plays.  He also picked up several hits including a double and a triple with four RBI.  Carpenter should see his stock rise after this performance.

 

Kohl Roberts, C/1B, Napoleon HS, 2014

Roberts is physically imposing. He has one of the best bodies in the class with broad shoulders and long levers.  Roberts was a Second Team All-State performer this past spring.  He has a considerable amount of pop at the plate but occasionally is inconsistent.  Fast bat at the plate.  Carries himself well.  Definite follow.

 

Clark McBain, SS/RHP, Otsego HS, 2014

McBain can make all of the plays. He is best served as a 3B at the next level.  Solid arm across the diamond (76mph) on this day.  At the plate looks the part. Line drive swing.  Short stride with high hands. Flat bat path.  Made several nice plays during the games.  Came a got the ball well.

 

Andrew Manduzzi, C/INF, Dakota HS, 2014

Manduzzi can flat out hit.  Has power to all fields.  Good runner for his size and has the versatility to play in the infield on both corners as well.  Threw out a runner in game action with a 2.2 in game pop time.  In the showcase portion his pop times ranged from 2.03-2.08.  Should land somewhere soon.

 

Tanner Knapp, OF/LHP, Portage Nothern HS, 2014

Knapp is an intriguing player.  He has a big frame to add pounds. 6-foot-1, 190-pounds  Easy arm action.  We liked him the best on the mound. Has good rhythm and fluidity.  Fastball ranged around 78mph.  Threw a ton of strikes. There is something there.  In the field he was solid all around.  Ball carried well.  Accurate throws on the bag.  Corner OF.  Gap power at the plate.  Pull heavy.  Definite follow.  Hoping he makes another jump. 

 

Cole Rize, 3B/RHP, Dexter HS, 2014

Rize catches your eye immediately when he enters the park. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Rize is athletic and shows plenty of potential.  The ball jumps off of his bat to all fields  Carries himself well.  Longer arm action at 3B but soft hands.  79mph across the diamond.  On the mound showed very well.  Best we have seen him  80-83mph.  Showcased both a curveball and a slider.  Slider his is better out pitch. 

 

Mark Dieterle, MIF, Hudsonville HS, 2014

Dieterle is flying under the radar despite being a very good player.  Good actions in the infield.  Makes all of the plate.  Soft hands. Has been taught well.  Plays at a high level in both high school and in the summer.  Picked up a base hit and a stolen base in game action. Small school player.  Needs a place.
