Tuttle goes from state title to CMU commitment

WOODHAVEN - What a few months it has been for Kevin Tuttle.

In June, Tuttle helped Riverview Gabriel Richard to its first state baseball title in school history. Four months later, the 64th-ranked senior in the state became the first non-pitcher from his school to ever commit to a Division I school with the decision to play at Central Michigan.

“Not many people can say they were the first to go to Division I from their school,” Tuttle said. “It’s a smaller school with 360 kids. I just want others to know you can do what I did and go play D-I baseball.”

But it takes a lot of work along the way.

“I always wanted to play college baseball since I was a kid,” the 6-0 175-pounder reflected. “When I was 12 or 13 I began to think I had a shot to play somewhere. I was starting to do more out-of-state tournaments and getting more exposure.”

Tuttle points to his father as a big part of it.

“He’s been my coach since I was seven until I was 15 or 16,” Tuttle said. “He’s taken me to a lot of tournaments and been with me the entire time. It means everything that he can be there.

“He’s really helped me more with my hands-on defense and the mental side of the game when I get down with a bad swing or a bad at-bat.”
