PORTAGE - With a name like Trammell you have to be good.

Portage Central junior Trammell Lindstrom understands it goes with the territory.

Named after former Detroit Tiger great Alan Trammell, the 32nd-rated player in the state has more than lived up to his first name. A potential two-way player in college, Lindstrom showed off his arm at the Preseason All-Star Showcase in March with a 91 infield velocity.

“I got to meet a lot of players I’ve read about, that was cool,” Lindstrom said about the event. “Being one of the top performers there was also a great thing.”

A third baseman as well as pitcher, Lindstrom has checked out campuses at schools like Spring Arbor, Taylor, Hillsdale, Western Michigan and Huntington. A visit to Michigan State is also in his future.

“The schools I’ve talked with like my athleticism and ability to play multiple positions,” explained Lindstrom, who also participates in water polo at Portage Central. “Hitting is the key factor for me. Third base is the top position most see me at, plus I can be a utility player and relief pitcher.”

Michigan PBR Director of Scouting Aaron Wilson sees a lot of promise in Lindstrom.

“Trammell has shown a polished game on both the mound and infield,” Wilson said. “At third base he has clean actions with a strong arm that allows him to make every play. He also shows barrel control at the plate with some lift. He has good mound presence while pitching with above average command.”

A Driveline program helped add to his numbers over the winter.

“My arm strength has really improved,” pointed out the 16th-rated uncommitted 2020 in Michigan. “I’ve also been working hard on my hitting fundamentals.”

But there is an understanding more improvement is needed to be able to excel in college.
