Recruiting news from around the state

Tis the season to commit.  Players are starting fly off the board as the commitments are starting to roll in. Here are some of the latest names to commit:

No. 7 Sterling Sharp, RHP/SS, North Farmington, 2013

Sharp is a long lean projectable pitcher with a pretty high ceiling.  He uses his long levers and whip-like arm action to produce an easy 88-89 mph fastball.  As he continues to progress, he will be sure to make some jumps along the way.  Sharp committed to Eastern Michigan this week.

No. 8 Alex Maloney, SS/RHP, Chelsea, 2013

Maloney will be a two-way player for the Cardinals.  As a pitcher he has the arm strength with a fastball that reaches 88mph.  At short he is a solid defender who makes all of the plays and moves well running a sub 7.0 60-yard dash.  One of Maloney's best attributes as a player is his intense desire to compete and win.

No. 23 Walter Borkovich, RHP, Traverse City West, 2013

Borkovich committed to Michigan State University.  Borkovich has some upside as well.  Consistency is the name of the game for him.  We have seen him up to 88-89 mph on the gun and also have seen him pitch 83-86 mph.  His stuff is solid as he pitches to contact and makes the ball move.  He seems to be a good fit for a program that plays good defense and forces the action.

No. 21 Seth Johnson, OF, Gobles, 2013

Johnson has some of the best pop in his bat in his class. Although he is smaller in stature, Johnson has quick hands and exceptional bat speed that makes the ball jump off the bat.  Johnson is an average runner and a solid defender as well. He will continue his playing career at Michigan State.

No. 29 BJ Butler, RHP, Mattawan, 2013

Butler improved his stock this summer by pitching well when it mattered most.  He threw well in East Cobb against some of the best teams in the country and caught the eye of Ball State University.  A good student and a good competitor Butler will fit in nicely at Ball State.

Congrats to all of the players who have committed so far.  It will be fun to watch as players start to come off the board.
