Q and A with Kalamazoo Valley Community College Commit: Logan Holwerda (Gull Lake HS)
June 1, 2012
Logan Holwerda, C/1B, Gull Lake HS
PBR: Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Holwerda: I will be attending Kalamazoo Valley Community College. A few years ago, my cousin played baseball there and the coaches told me I could possibly start as a freshman. This interested me. Also, it is a lot closer to home.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Holwerda: The other school that showed the most interest in me was Glen Oaks Community College.
PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Holwerda: I think my fielding consistency could use improvement.
PBR: What type of preparation has gone into such a successful high school season?
Holwerda: With limited resources and some family issues I didn't have much pre-season work.
PBR: Tell us what you have done by taking on a new position your senior year.
Holwerda: With the new position came a huge leadership role on our team, I've done my best to fill those needs.
PBR: Has it been difficult to fill the shoes of a division one player like Zach Fish, who now plays at Oklahoma State?
Holwerda: I like to think both of my feet fill one of his shoes just fine.
PBR: What are your goals for the rest of 2012 season? Since your team has won the SWAC East.
Holwerda: I have one goal for the rest of the season and thats a state title.
PBR: What is your fondest baseball memory or highlight from your career?
Holwerda: Last year in the sixth inning of a tight Wolverine Conference game against Allegan, Coach Blakely called me off the bench for a quick pinch hit with the basses loaded. Two pitches later I hit my first varsity grand slam.
PBR: What would like to study in college or have you decided on a major?
Holwerda: I would like to study automotive technology.
