Q and A with 2015 Indiana Commit: Chandler Sedat (West Bloomfield HS)
August 1, 2014
Chandler Sedat, RHP, West Bloomfield HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Indiana?
Sedat: Coach Lemonis contacted me after he became the head coach and invited me down to Bloomington for a visit. After seeing what they had to offer both academically and athletically, I was very impressed. Indiana has great baseball program and it is only going to get better now with the momentum that the new coaching staff will bring. It was an easy decision to make considering all that is happening at Indiana right now.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Sedat: West Virginia, Oklahoma, Michigan State, Michigan, UNC Charlotte
PBR: Coach Lemonis was just hired as the new coach at Indiana. How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Sedat: I am very excited to be a part of his first recruiting class. With the background and experience that he has, and the great players that he has recruited as assistant coach at Louisville, it’s a very good feeling to know that he wants me to play for him.
PBR: Coach Lemonis is well known as a great assistant coach. How quickly do you think that success can transfer as the new head coach for Hoosier baseball?
Sedat: I think that success will transfer very quickly. It might take a little bit of time to get acclimated with other aspects of the program, but he definitely knows baseball and has had a lot of successes coaching at Louisville and The Citadel. I think it would be tough to find someone with a more consistent track record.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Sedat: I believe Coach Lemonis first saw me at the Louisville prospect camp last year. My dad had been in contact with coach Lemonis ever since the camp and he had been sending him videos of me throwing. Coach Lemonis saw me throw most recently at the Area Code Tryouts and called me shortly after that. Coach Kyle Bunn, the new Indiana pitching coach, came out to see me throw in Indianapolis this summer. This is a new coaching staff, so I haven’t had an opportunity to develop a relationship with all of them yet, but I am looking forward to it.
PBR: Was the recruiting process what you expected?
Sedat: If you’re referring to just the Indiana recruiting process, it went pretty quickly. If you’re referring to the recruiting process as a whole, I really didn’t have any set expectations. I think it’s different for everyone.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Sedat: I play for the Huntington Hounds out of West Virginia. I’d have to say my most exciting experience was getting to meet and play with players and coaches from all around the country.
PBR: What were your stats this season at West Bloomfield?
I pitched over 60 innings with 71 strikeouts and a 5-2 record and had a .376 batting average.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced?
Sedat: I really don’t know who the toughest hitter I faced was, but I can say that the Brother Rice Warriors were probably the toughest team I threw against.
