Q and A with 2014 Ohio Northern Commmit: DJ Gotz (Britton-Deerfeild HS)
July 2, 2014
DJ Gotz, RHP/3B, Britton-Deerfield HS, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Northern?
Gotz: I choose Ohio Northern because I like what was going on in the athletic program and the academic side of Ohio Northern.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Gotz: I considered Hillsdale, Adrian and a few other schools around the area.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you compete?
Gotz: I actually first met Coach Stechshulte at an indoor workout for my travel ball team and he came to watch me throw a live bullpen.
PBR: What role does Coach Stechschulte expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Gotz: Coach Stechshulte expects me to make an impact as a pitcher first year, coming in at certain situations and perhaps playing the field a little.
PBR: Coach Stechschulte was a former MLB pitcher. How much of a role did that play in your decision, knowing you would receive some of his firsthand knowledge?
Gotz: It played a big role to have a coach who has a strong knowledge base on how to get me that much better than my competition.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Gotz: My dad has had the strongest impact. He got me involved at a young age, he loves the game and he taught me to love it. He is also always supporting and/or coaching for me.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Gotz: I play for the Oakland reds and the most exciting part is traveling and getting to play at new parks and just enjoying the game.
PBR: What were your stats last season for Britton-Deerfeild?
Gotz: I hit .406 in 72 at bats with 36 RB and five home runs. On the mound I was 1.82 with 68 K’s, 5-2 with 62 innings.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?
Gotz: Toughest pitcher I faced was TJ Baker out of Clinton High School, he always had great command and ability to keep me off balance.
