Pre-Season All-State Loaded with Good Talent

By Mike Penn
Michigan Scouting Director

T
he Pre-Season All-State Showcase is loaded with good talent primarily from the 2014 class.  With 65 players attending there are sure to be plenty of good performances. Here are some notable names that we expect to show well:

Zach McGuire (Sterling Heights Stevenson HS), Jackson Overlund (Forrest Hills Central HS), Brent Showers (Rockford HS), A.J. Montoya (St. Joseph HS), and Michael Reid (Bishop Foley HS) all participated in last summer's Midwest Futures Games.  All of them have continued to make considerable jumps and are primed to show well.

Joey Rydzewski (Warren DeLa Salle HS), Justin Salvano (Lake Michigan Catholic HS), Josh Birnberg (West Bloomfield Hills HS), and Brad Baldwin (Bishop Foley HS) will all be extremely solid middle infielders to watch.

On the corners some names to watch are Andrew Manduzzi (Macomb Dakota HS), Randy Righter (Brother Rice HS, and Ty Kiafoulis (Brother Rice HS) all have pop in the bat and should show well.

Conor Bowers (Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS), Jacob Gividen (Portage Northern HS), Alex Sova (H.H. Dow HS) and Tone Jacobs (Bay City John Glenn HS) are all highly regarded right-hand pitchers going to be in attendance. Some under-the- radar righties to watch will be Kyle Rago (Berrien Springs HS), Tommy Lentz (Brother Rice HS), Jake Lincoln (Jackson Lumen Christi HS), and Austin Lukaschewski (Bishop Foley HS).

Joining them but from the left side will be Nick Hazergian (Canton HS) and Austin Batka (Grand Rapids Christian HS) both little known lefties who can really pitch.

In the outfield we expect good things and fast times from Devin Rose (Orchard Lake St. Mary's), Greg Antoine (Romeo HS), Ryan Stewart (Parkway Christian HS), and Kevin Suwarsky (Paw Paw HS).

From a 2013 potential MLB Draft perspective Brett Adcock (Bay City Western HS), currently No. 4 in the Class of 2013, will be attending. He has been as high as 91mph last summer.

Some unsigned seniors attending are Michael Sielinski (Swan Valley HS) and Devin Clifford (Bay City Central HS). Both are intriguing possibilities. Clifford can play behind the plate as well as the outfield. Sielinski is a late-blooming catcher with good actions, strong arm and a great frame.

That is only half the field.  The other half has the potential to surprise a lot of people.

We will post the final roster tomorrow.
