Pollock Bringing Winning Attitude To Oakland

Bishop Foley Catholic reached the state championship game in consecutive seasons before being ousted in the regionals in 2019. Now a senior at the high school, Pollock is hoping to bring that kind of success to Oakland after recently committing to the Horizon League college.

“Our school is known for producing good baseball players,” Pollock said about Bishop Foley Catholic. “My freshman year we had nine players go on to play college baseball.”

The tradition has continued for Pollock, not far from home, where he will become the third Bishop Foley grad to play at Oakland in the past five years.

“Everything started in late July when I went 14-for-17 at a tournament with two home runs and a triple,” Pollock related. “Coach (Colin) Kaline contacted me after that. I went on a visit and they offered. They like how I hit and that I have good speed. They see me in the outfield.”

The 5-10 190-pound left-hander, who had an offer from Ashland and interest from Eastern Michigan, found what he was looking for on the visit to Oakland, just a half-hour from his home.

“When I first stepped on campus, it felt like home,” noted Pollock. “Coach is a genuine professional. He didn’t put pressure on me to make a decision.

“I also like that the campus is close to home and my family can come watch me play.”

The 17th-rated player in Michigan’s 2020 class was not concerned that he had not committed prior to senior year of high school.

“I had offers at all levels,” Pollock said of his recruitment. “Some wanted a quick decision and others wanted to drag out the process. But I didn’t want to wait with the offer from Oakland.

“I always wanted to play college baseball and I wanted to play at the Division I level.”

That dream finally became a reality.
