PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: #7 (D-1) Sterling Heights Stevenson vs L'Anse Creuse North
Stevenson is a perennial state title contender and known for sending several players to college. Most recently 2014 Mr. Baseball Zach McGuire (Michigan State) and 2015 All-State shortstop Riley McCauley (Michigan State).
On Monday, Stevenson ran 2017 Eastern Michigan Commit Luke McGuire out to the mound and he did not disappoint.
L'Anse Creuse North second hitter 2017 Brendan Peck hit a line drive to left field displaying good bat control. Peck scored after a misplayed ball in leftfield giving Creuse North a early 1 run lead.
Not to be out done, Stevenson opened the bottom of the 1st with a lead off infield single by Unsigned senior Frank D'Ascenzo, followed by a rocket line drive through the 3-4 hole by 2017 Mario Camilletti. Saginaw Valley State commit Devin Dudal singled up the middle knotting the game up at 1-1 to end the 1st inning.
McGuire rolled following the early hiccup in the 1st inning.
On the warmest day of the early season his arm was nice and loose. Luke threw a complete game, with zero earned runs, and 5 strikeouts.
Unsigned senior Jake Zelenak opened the bottom of the third inning with a solo opposite field home run giving Stevenson a 2-1 lead.
During the bottom of the 4th inning unsigned senior Simon Lidwell legged out a infield single and stole second base on the following pitch. Unsigned senior Tyler Menrath earned a free pass, 2018 Johnny Teolis placed a sacrifice bunt down the 1st baseline advancing both runners. 2017 Todd Paperd laced a 2-RBI single to left field scoring both Lidwell and Menrath.
Those two runs proved to be the nail in the coffin.
