No.3 Sterling Heights Stevenson handles No. 1 Macomb Dakota

Monday saw a matchup between two of Macomb County heavyweight’s as Macomb Dakota hosted Sterling Heights Stevenson.

Stevenson wasted no time getting on the board as they scored two runs on four hits in the first.  Junior CF Brandon Hughes led off the game with a single and went on to pile up three hits and a walk on the day.  He showed speed and athleticism while leading the Titans’ fast paced and aggressive offense.

Junior right hander Zach McGuire held Dakota hitless until Travis Perkola landed on a double to right center in the sixth.  Until then, McGuire commanded the strike zone with an overhand delivery, low 80’s fastball and 11-5 curveball with late bite and depth. He also helped put the game away for good in the seventh with a bases loaded double that brought in three.

Alex Lewandowski, Dakota’s senior right hander was roughed up early but found his  release point late in the game and flashed a slider that has “swing and miss” written all over it when he gets to Northwood’s campus next year.

Stevenson Sophomore’s Brandon Williams and Greg McDade showed why fans and recruiters alike are anxiously awaiting the next few years in Titan Country.  Williams, as long limbed as he is, shows surprising body control as well as solid glovework at first.

Greg McDade has the tools, feel for hitting and big play capability that should endeer him to many a recruiter in the next few years.  Although he plays left field now, his speed and athleticism will make the transition to center field easy in the next few years.  He also flashed the quick first step needed to be a constant threat to steal bases.
