Kyle Murphy OF / RHP / Orchard Lake St. Marys, MI / 2020Rankings StateRank: 75 / POS: 17
WEST BLOOMFIELD - An elbow injury while water tubing opened up the eyes of Kyle Murphy in regard to his baseball future. “Sitting on the bench watching your teammates play, you see the game in a completely different perspective,” the Orchard Lake St. Marys senior explained. “That helped me decide that I love it and that it’s what I want to do for the next few years. “Up until then I thought about just playing baseball in high school,” continued Murphy, who was injured the summer before his junior school year. “But after that I knew baseball was something I wanted to do and try and develop to see where it takes me.” Where the 75th-rated 2020 in the state ends up is yet to be determined, with interest coming from every level of college programs. “Right now I’m comparing them to see what my correct fit is for the next four years,” Murphy noted. “I’ve been to Division III schools, NAIA and some bigger D-II schools.” Northwood, Davenport, Lawrence Tech and Concordia are Michigan schools currently being considered with Earlham and Heidelberg others that have been talking with Murphy. But it is far from certain what the future will hold. “My goal is to play at the highest level,” Murphy said. “I know I’m on the radar of some D-I schools and I want to try and get more of them out to see me. “I’ve also had quite a few JUCOs reach out. I have a lot of friends taking that route but right now I see myself going to a four-year college where I can pursue academics and baseball right away.” Adding to the uncertainty is the prospect of being a two-way player at the next level. |
