Michigan Insider: 2016 Michigan Spring HS Player of the Year - Michael Mokma
Name: Michael Mokma
School: Holland Christian
Class: 2016
Position: RHP/1B
Height/Weight: 6-foot-7, 220-pounds
Rank: 4th in the class of 2016
2016 Spring Success: Michael Mokma was the state's most dominant player this season. The Michigan State University commit had a season for the ages. He had a 15-0 record, 1.06 ERA, 120 strikeouts, while adding a .430 batting average, 4 homeruns and 34 RBI in 153 plate appearances. Standing 6-foot-7, 220 pound RHP/1B helped lead Holland Christian to the Division 2 State title victory with an 14 strikeout performance to cap off a great high school career. He also pitched two perfect games on the season.
Coaches Thoughts: "Mike has had an amazing season. He won 15 games this season (15-0) and pitched 2 perfect games. He was also the winning pitcher in the state semifinal game (in relief) and the state final game (complete game). He also was our leading hitter. (.430) I have been fortunate to have coached many outstanding players, but none have ever had a season quite like that!
Mike has great baseball knowledge and instincts, but he has also worked his tail off on his baseball skills. Whether it's hitting, pitching, or defense he has worked at it. Mike's success is a combination of God given ability and a great work ethic.
I am not only proud of Mike's accomplishments on the field, but his dedication and leadership off the field. He is a great kid and an excellent teammate." - Holland Christian Head Coach Jim Caserta
