Jake Jekielek RHP / SS / Sterling Heights Stevenson, MI / 2020Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 15
STERLING HEIGHTS - “Wide open” is how Jake Jekielek describes his college recruitment at this stage. “I want to go to the best place to get a degree and to play ball at a place that can help me take it to the next level,” the Sterling Heights Stevenson senior-to-be said. Several Mid-American Conference schools are among those that the 46th-ranked 2020 in Michigan has been in contact with in his recruitment. “They love how dynamic I am on the mound,” explained the 6-1 170-pound right-hander pitcher and infielder. “They like how I can move my pitches around and how I can command them. Hitting wise, they like how I use both sides of the field. I’m a gap-to-gap hitter.” The 46th-ranked incoming senior in the state has made a lot of strides to this point. “I’ve definitely improved my fielding,” noted Jekielek, who has moved around in the infield but this past season settled in at third base for the 16th-ranked team in the final State High School Power Rankings. “I’ve got a lot more range and able to cover a lot more ground. “With hitting, I was struggling at the start of the year getting too far under the ball. I really worked on my swing after that to be able to get more gap to gap and began doing well with that.” Additional improvement came on the mound. “I have a three-quarter arm slot and been working on a slider that’s really helped me out a lot,” the 11th-ranked uncommitted right-handed pitcher in Michigan said. Aaron Wilson, Michigan PBR Director of Scouting, likes what he has seen from Jekielek. “Jake plays for one of the most respected high school programs in Michigan,” Wilsonnoted. “He has very good athleticism which he displays both on the mound and in the field. I look at him as a middle infielder with solid range. On the mound, he has a fast arm and movement. He can command the zone while using deception and a mid-80s fastball." |
