Glennie Drawing A Lot Of College Interest

SALINE - Mason Glennie is not lacking for interest. The Saline junior has a list of 16 colleges he has been in contact with, including five he has visited.

“A year ago I was on the edge of playing college baseball,” Glennie noted. “In the offseason I took things into my own hands and worked on my velocity and improving my mechanics and I saw a lot of strides.”

Schools such as Butler, Western Michigan, Dayton, the University of Indianapolis and Wayne State have been drawn to the sixth-rated uncommitted 2021 right-handed pitcher in the state.

“Most that I’ve been talking to like how projectable I am with a loose arm,” the 6-1 185-pounder explained. “I’m not the biggest guy, but I’m able to produce velo and I have a four-pitch mix.”

Aaron Wilson, PBR Michigan Director of Scouting, sees a lot of promise in the 30th-ranked Michigan junior, who has talked with Bowling Green, Akron, Wofford, Army, Northwood, Saginaw Valley, Charleston (W. Va.), Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Bucknell and Toledo in addition to those he has visited.

“Mason is a pitcher not a thrower,” Wilson pointed out. “He understands how to work the zone and utilize his breaking pitches. He has a projectable frame, and a great work ethic. His best days are ahead of him.”

Unfortunately, COVID-19 resulted in no high school season bringing a change to the spring plans of getting more exposure to colleges.

“The recruiting process for me began early my sophomore year,” Glennie said. “It was pretty slow then, but by the end of last summer it really started picking up.

“Everything was set up for schools to come watch me play but then came the virus. I have schools that I obviously like more than others and the top two or three schools were coming to my first game of the season. My goal was to commit before the end of high school season.”

Strong performances at a pair of PBR events prior to the 2020 Saline campaign helped bring out that optimism.
