Carson Collins RHP / SS / Clio, MI / 2020Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 5
CLIO - College visits are just starting for Carson Collins. Where it will lead the junior from Clio High School is yet to be determined. “I’ve been working really hard since the fall,” noted the 16th-ranked 2020 in Michigan, who has participated in a velo program with Eric Coleman and also been doing strength training with Jack Johnson at Freelance Sports Zone. A Legacy PBR event in February jump-started the interest in the 6-2 170-pound right-handed pitcher, who was judged to have the Most Projectable Arm, Best Fastball and Best Three-Pitch Mix at the showcase. “That’s when a lot of colleges contacted me,” Collins explained, listing Valparaiso, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Toledo and Central Michigan among them. The first visit just took place to Valpo. “That went great,” noted Collins, who has since had interest shown from Xavier, Eastern Illinois and North Alabama. “I got to see a doubleheader and in between games we checked out the campus. After the games, (assistant) coach (Casey) Fletcher took me on a tour of their clubhouse and training facilities.” The fourth-rated uncommitted junior in the state has a lot to offer. “They like that I throw a lot of strikes,” Collins pointed out. “They also like my frame. They said I look to be a projectable guy that can add weight.” Collins feels being a team guy can also benefit a program at the next level. “One thing about me is I’m very talkative,” the second-ranked uncommitted junior pitcher in Michigan said. “I love hanging with teammates and learning a lot from the coaches. I’ve been told I’m one of the most coachable guys they’ve had. I have a big heart and take a lot of pride in loving the game of baseball.” A 3.86 student looking at a major in business, interest in playing college baseball came from relatives. “The first baseball game I went to was when I was two-years-old to watch Todd Zeile play when he was with the Mets,” Collins said in reference to his father’s first cousin. |
