Featured Games: Canton Sweeps Orchard Lake St. Mary's
April 11, 2012
April 10th featured not only a cold and blustery day but two of the top teams in the state the Eaglets of Orchard Lake St Mary’s and the Chiefs of Canton. Both teams have been ranked in the top 15 in the state for their respective divisions.
The first game featured Mike Stafford of Canton, one of the top arms in the 2013 graduating class. Stafford cruised through first few innings flashing a 84-85 MPH fastball and a solid change up. However, Stafford left the game trailing 2-1 but the Chiefs proved why they are worthy of a top 15 ranking winning the first game by the score of 4-2. Senior Mitch Clinton delivered in the 6th snapping a 2-2 tie and sophomore lefty Nick Hazergian picked up the save by throwing two scoreless innings.
Canton features a deep pitching with the likes of Stafford (2013), Ryan Bazner (2012), and Brent Mattson (2014), and Nick Hazergian (2014).
Bazner, who is committed to play at Saginaw Valley State University, started the second game and went 3 innings helping the Chiefs complete the doubleheader sweep. He was followed by Brent Mattson who pitched out of trouble but kept his composure in the 10-6 win.
The Eaglets of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s travel to the west side of the state to compete the rest of the week while Canton will play against Grosse Pointe North and Milan in the Milan tournament.
