Mark Kattula 3B / 1B / Stevenson, MI / 2020Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 1
STEVENSON - “It’s got to be like a second home.” That was the advice Michael Kattula gave to his younger brother Mark Kattula about making a college choice. The 11th-rated 2020 player in the state believes he has found what his older sibling was talking about in Eastern Michigan. Kattula recently made a commitment to the Mid-American Conference school located just an hour away from home. “They were a very welcoming staff,” the 6-0 195-pound corner infielder said about his visits to EMU. “The biggest part for me was how welcome I felt. You’re going to be with the coaching staff for four years so it has to be with someone you feel you’re going to be happy with.” There was interest from other MAC schools like Toledo, but the final decision came down to Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. “Those were my final options,” Kattula said about narrowing down his choices. “For me, the coaching staff at Eastern just seemed to work well.and that you could build a great relationship with them. Their theory on everything made it feel like it would be the right place for me.” Eastern Michigan initially took a liking to Kattula at the Top Prospect Games last June. “After that they kind followed me in the summer and I had a couple big games,” the top-ranked junior third baseman in Michigan said. “On Sept. 1, we started talking and things really took off. I went to a football game there in November and on another visit Jan. 25 to see what it was all about as far as the facilities and academics.” One aspect of his game stood out that attracted EMU. |
