Chance To Wear Maize-And-Blue Excites Schubart

ORCHARD LAKE - Nolan Schubart called it a “split house.”

His father is a Michigan fan while his mother is “50-50” Michigan and Michigan State. A younger brother roots for Michigan State while an older brother, Nick Mazzara, is a freshman at Michigan.

Maybe a commitment will help the house divided.

The Orchard Lake St. Marys freshman did just that recently announcing his intentions to attend and play baseball for the University of Michigan.

“I always liked Michigan growing up,” explained the number one-rated player in the state’s 2022 class. “In sixth grade I started going to their camps and in seventh grade it hit me about exposure and I started going to prospect camps. In eighth grade they started to show interest in me.”

It continued when a Michigan coach watched Schubart in Florida while playing for the Louisiana Knights.

“The head coach ended up making me a first offer and I stayed in touch,” the 6-4 190-pound left-handed hitting Schubart reflected. “A couple weeks later they made an even better offer and I accepted.”

The third-ranked freshman first baseman in the country, Schubart is being looked at as a two-way player by Michigan.

“They like my pitching, hitting and fielding,” explained Schubart, a corner infielder with the ability to play outfield in addition to pitching.

The chance to wear the maize-and-blue was too much to pass up for the promising Schubart, who plays in a high school program that features five of the top 23 ranked players in the state’s 2022 class.

“I like everything about it, the athletics to the academics,” Schubart said of Michigan. “They have everything I want to go into. I love the coaches and the college atmosphere.”
