This weekend, we’re back in Kansas City to host the Midwest Premier Super 17 tournament, featuring some of the top talent in the region, primarily representing Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, among several other states.

Today, we’re previewing the top uncommitted talent headed to Creekside and Homefield complexes. And while this is a 17U tournament, it’s going to be jam-packed with some of the region’s best and brightest talent inside the Class of 2026, in addition to the Class of 2025.

+ Aiden Smith, RHP/OF (Shelbyville HS, IN, 2026):

“Extremely impressive at the recent 16U National Championship as the No. 3-ranked player in the state of Indiana. He had all the tools on display this week with barrels to all parts of the field. Tall, quick, athletic 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame with speed on the base paths. Generates tons of carry and backspin on fly balls that seemed to just miss the fence. Had multiple triples in one game and then another triple in Wednesday’s morning game. Loose hands held high in the box, closer stance but widens and chops down with two-strikes. Always seemed to find his way on base with aggressive approaches early in the count. High follow.”

+ Beckett Doane, LHP (Noblesville HS, IN, 2026):

“Standing at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Doane has showed a major tick in velocity that was ahead of schedule, now showing a fastball at 88-90 mph. Doane shows control of five distinct pitches, adding a sinker over the offseason that works at 87-88 mph with nearly 15" of arm-side break. Doane's splitter may be his best offspeed offering at the moment, as the 6'5" southpaw is able to kill spin on the 77-78 mph pitch, and it shows arm-side fade. Doane has firmed up his slider, now throwing it 79-83 mph, and also spinning a 75-78 mph curveball to provide multiple looks with spin. Doane moves down the slope with a controlled aggression, and his full arm swing works to a deceptive, low 3/4 slot. Doane shows the ability to control a variety of pitches, paired with an up-tick in velocity and a frame that projects. Doane is a name to know in Indiana.”

“From Shooter Hunt's '25 Helium Hopefuls' published in May: 'Any of those looking for a true sleeper candidate in the class might want to venture to Colorado as the uber-athletic Gottsegen fills the data collection sheet with buzz worthy numbers. At 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, the high-waisted frame is similar to those successful former Colorado prep standouts, and the spring provided a graduation from a raw right-handed hitter to a highly intriguing prospect. A quick first step (6.57-runner a year ago) may provide for a future in center field, and his ability to cover the plate with some authority lends well to future success.'”

+ Gannon Grant, RHP/SS (Center Grove HS, IN, 2026):

“From April: Grant was outstanding on both sides of the ball in a look this past week. A two-way standing at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Grant went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in at the dish. The swing works uphill with some improving gap-to-gap power as he has added strength to his athletic frame. Grant got the start at 2B in this look, showing fluid actions with advanced body control. The athletic right-hander hopped on the bump for Center Grove and picked up the win, throwing two scoreless frames. An above-average strike-thrower - Gannon worked the fastball at 86-89 mph with some arm-side run. He also featured two above-average secondary offerings - a fading 74-77 mph changeup to left-handed hitters and a 74-75 mph breaking ball that flashed sharp movement. Grant fanned three batters in two clean innings of work. Athleticism stands out in all facets, the sophomore shows real two-way upside.”

“The 6-foot-3, 210-pound, physical, offensive catcher is one of the most impressive power bats in the state right now. Easy, low-effort hand strength, muscles and barrels the ball, and is simply one of the top power bats in the region. May has the ability to leave the yard and clobber balls to both sides of the field as we have seen now. Uncommitted and one of the top prospects to keep your eye on.”

“6-foot-3 and 194-pounds, the left-handed-hitting backstop has a short hand load with simple rhythm, above-average strength, and he has legitimate pull-side pop in bat; 75.3 mph bat speed with 24g rotational acceleration, 100 mph max exit velocity – averaged 95.8 mph and a 382-foot max batted distance. Defensively behind the plate has a physical presence, works off one knee, is athletic with good reactions, good mobility, strong glove, holds zone. Clean and quick exchange with short and quick footwork on throws; 80 mph catcher velo with 1.92-2.00 pop times. Also, a quick 7.02 runner in the 60 yard. ”

“A member of Team Midwest at the 2023 Future Games and participant at the Midwest ProCase, Heckman is a power arm. Last time seeing him out, Heckman was asked to get the final three outs. The long and lean right-hander needed just nine pitches (throwing seven for strikes) in his efficient inning of work. His fastball was 88-89 mph in this outing, but his slider at 77 was also a highly effective pitch.”

“The right-handed-hitting infielder is balanced with easy actions in the box, short to contact, mid/pull approach, above avg. fluid bat speed, shows ability to loft and back spin baseballs well. 73 mph bat speed with 10g of rotational acceleration; 99 mph max exit velocity, averaged 90.6 mph, and 361-foot max batted distance. Defensively has athletic actions, moves around the ball, light on feet, stays low, works into release. Good glove, clean and consistent. Super quick, 6.77 runner in the 60.”

“Roberts was a must-see arm on the mound from the MOKAN Preseason All-State event. The strong-bodied, 6-foot-4, 190-pound uncommitted junior produced effortless velocity on the mound, pumping his fastball up to 89-91 mph, topping out at 91.8 mph. Alongside that velocity, Roberts’ played with natural carry, with an average vertical break of 13 inches. Roberts’ also mixed in a sharp curveball at 74-75 mph, a sweeping slider 75-78 mph, and a low spin change up at 74 mph.”

“Grace continues to show why he is a top uncommitted name-to-know in Kansas’ 2025 class. The 2023 Future Games participant is packed with tools on both sides of the ball in a 6-foot-2, 196-pound frame. On the mound Grace showcased a three pitch mix, featuring an explosive fastball at 87-89 mph, a slider at 76-77 mph, and a changeup at 75-76 mph. At the plate, the senior uses a compact right handed swing to drive balls through the middle of the field with natural loft, reaching exit velocities upwards of 101 mph.”

+ Jax Racht, RHP (Niles HS, MI, 2026):

“The year 2023 was a big one for Jax Racht when it comes to his baseball future. The Niles High School sophomore is expecting 2024 to be even bigger.

‘Jax’s stock continues to rise,’ noted Adam Goodwin, Prep Baseball Michigan Director of Scouting. ‘As a freshman he was able to rack up a plethora of innings and 100-plus punch outs and will be a vital piece to the rotation this spring for the Vikings. He features a fastball in the mid-to-upper 80s and improving offspeed. He will be one to keep a close eye on this spring and into June and July, someone who already boasts a 6-foot-3 frame and room to fill out.’”
