With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Michigan is eagerly anticipating bringing the great state of Michigan the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.
Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: University Liggett
Team Name: University Liggett
Head Coach: Dan Cimini, 325-75 (13th Season)
Division: 3
2015 Record: 26-11
Conference Record: 9-1
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 8/5
Historical Accomplishments:
- 4 State Championships ('79, '11, '13, '14)
- 7 Final 4 Appearances (’72, ’79; ’98, '11, '12, '13, '14)
- Only Baseball team in Michigan HS History to go to four consecutive State Championship Games (2011-2014)
- Only team in Michigan HS Baseball State History to win “Back-to-Back” State Championships while "moving up a Division” 2013 (D4) and 2014 (D3)
2016 Team Strengths: We return 8 starters from last year’s #1 Ranked team and have 3 returning seniors. We are young but very experienced.
2016 Team Weaknesses: Our youth is always a concern, but they all are talented and have strong mental makeup.
Top Returning Players:
- Matthew Gushee (pictured right), RHP, 2016, R/R, 3-year starter. Beat Bishop Foley in the playoffs in the 2014 Regional Championship game and in the 2015 Districts. 1st Team All State Pitcher
- Sean Fannon, RHP/INF/OF, 2016, R/R, 3-year starter. Hit .446 with 19 2B, 4 HR and 47 RBIs. Also was 10-2 on the bump. 1st Team All State
- Connor McCarron, SS/P, 3-year starter, L/R. 3rd Ranked ‘17 SS in the state by PBR. All State in 2015
- William Morrison, CF, 2018. 5-tool player with huge upside. D1 prospect. Hit .416 as a freshman with 27 SB and 74 runs scored (school record)
Top Underclassmen:
- Jackson Walkowiak, 2017, LHP/1B. 6’4 LHP with huge upside. Plus curve, slider and changeup
- Noah Miller (pictured right), INF/P, 2018. Smooth at 2B with gap to gap power started all 37 games in 2015
- Anthony George, OF/INF/P, 2018, R/R. Started all 37 games for us last season
- Dylan Paulsell, C/OF, 2018, R/R. Was our starting catcher in 2015 and handled our pitching staff beautifully
- Tyler Daar, 6’4, 180-pounds RHP. Brother of 2012 Michigan “Mr. Baseball” Award winner, Alex Daar '12 Grad
- Brady McCarron, 2019, OF/RHP, L/R. ”pop in his bat”
- Alec Azar, 2019, RHP, 6’4. ”huge upside”
