'Dream School' Michigan State Becomes Reality For Warren

BELLEVILLE - The “dream school” is now the future home for Kaden Warren.

“Michigan State has been my dream school since I was a little kid,” Warren related. “I grew up a Michigan State fan in basketball and football and it has an amazing education. It has everything I wanted in a college.”

The Belleville junior attended a couple camps at MSU before high school and that only added to his interest, which became more intense a few months back.

“This summer (head) coach (Jake) Boss and his dad came to watch me play and I had a good game,” Warren noted. “I got a call from (assistant) coach (Graham) Sikes and he wanted me to come on a visit.”

A trip to MSU took place in late September and the seventh-rated 2025 catcher in Michigan came away pleased.

“It’s a beautiful campus,” explained Warren, who was offered at the end of the visit and eventually committed in early November. “I met all the players and coaches and they were all very welcoming. I felt I had a home there with a lot of good people surrounding me. Plus, my dad’s an alum.”

That only added to the excitement when the commitment became official.

“It was emotional for my dad,” Warren related. “It meant a lot for him to see me go to my dream school and live out a dream I’ve had since I was a little kid.”

Admittedly, the 70th-ranked junior in the state had some doubts when it came to playing baseball at the Big 10 university.

“College baseball has always been my dream but I didn’t expect to be going somewhere as big as Michigan State until recently,” Warren said. “I started lifting and getting better and Michigan State became the best school that was interested in me.”

The 5-9 175-pounder made an impression on the MSU coaches.

“They thought I was a good leader and had good potential,” Warren said. “They like my arm behind the plate and my hitting. They said I had a nice swing and they think I can help the program.”

It was freshman year when the recruiting process began according to Warren.

“I started off going to PBR showcases and tournaments and then switched to camps, including a Michigan State camp,” Warren noted. “It was stressful waiting for responses.”

Improvement was vital in helping the cause.

“My dad and brother were big in that,” Warren explained. “We have a homemade gym in the garage where I do hitting and video, dissecting my swing, and doing different strength training.”

Travel coach Greg Ryan is also credited with being a big influence for Warren, who attributed catching lessons to improve his velocity behind the plate as another key point in his baseball journey that will find him as part of the program at MSU, two hours from home.

“I feel I can bring them a great deal of leadership,” the 16-year-old said. “I’m a very loud player on the field making sure everyone is positive. I’m good at creating strong relationships and helping the team chemistry. I also think I have the skills to help win games and win a Big 10 championship.”

A 4.2 student at Belleville, Warren has aspirations to become a lawyer once his baseball playing days have ended. But before that, there is a matter of helping make the program at East Lansing the best it can be while making individual improvements along the way.

“I’ve met a lot of the players and they’re all super nice and the coaches are supportive and welcoming,” Warren concluded. “I look forward to being a part of that big family. I feel I can advance my skills there and the coaches can help get me where I want to be past college.”
