Samuel Gray RHP / 3B / Bridgton Academy, ME / 2019

ROCKLAND, Ma. - At 6-2 and 165 pounds, Sam Gray has a frame to build upon. More velocity with the fastball will also help.

A post-graduate year at Bridgton Academy has the highly projectable Gray optimistic about his future in baseball.

“My big thing is to go up there and get my fastball velocity up,” the right-handed pitcher said. “Everybody has told me I can pitch, but my fastball is not there yet. That’s my main goal.”

The development is coming in the early stages at his new school.

“I’m doing offseason lifts, Driveline and a throwing program set up by my coach,” the 99th-ranked 2019 in New England said. “I was 78-80 when I showed up at Bridgton and I’m 82-84 now. I’ve made a jump and I want to see where I can get from here. I’m thinking 86-88.”

Going to the boarding school in Maine from his Rockland High School in Massachusetts was a bit stressful in the early going.

“It’s been good but nerve-wracking at first,” Gray admitted. ”But I’ve made a lot of friends and this will prepare me for next year. Going to college after this can only benefit me.”

Particularly if the improvement continues.
