Over the next few weeks, leading up to the beginning of the 2024 MD High School season, our staff will be releasing our Preseason Power 25. This list will be comprised of public schools across the state that we feel have a strong chance of being successful in 2024. Throughout the coming weeks, be on the lookout for our MD Public School Top 10, as well as a slew of additional preseason coverage.

#3 Broadneck Bruins

Featuring one of the more highly talented and deep lineups across the state, the Bruins enter the 2024 season with a plethora of experienced upperclassmen that look to get over the hump and make a deep run this spring. A successful regular season in 2023 saw Broadneck as an early exit in the playoffs, and we see this program determined and poised for a shot at the 4A state title in 2024.

With a lineup led by senior shortstop Calvin Cook (Middle Tennessee State), the Bruins have a ton of intriguing pieces throughout the order that provides firepower and depth 1-9. Junior outfielder Michael Swick is certainly a name to keep eyes on at the top of the order, as senior Devin McGowan and junior Nicholas Cicale will bring some thump and consistency in the middle. The Bruins also feature two freshmen who look to make an impact and provide depth on both sides of the ball in Avik Cherry and Cooper Mengel.

On the bump, the Bruins will rely on depth and experience to find success this spring, led by juniors Noah Forman, Kobe Owen, and senior Devin McGowan. If the pitching staff can consistently pound the zone and pitch to contact, the offense should be able to carry this team deep into the playoffs this spring.
