THIS FUTURE GAMES SPOTLIGHT SERIES WILL HIGHLIGHT AND TAKE A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE PLAYER PERFORMANCES FROM TEAM MARYLAND'S WEEK AT FUTURE GAMES.

Arian Vargas RHP / Archbishop Spalding , MD / 2026

The breakout 2024 campaign continued for the physical 6-foot-1, 208-pound right-hander at the Future Games, as Vargas impressed the numerous college coaches who had their eyes locked in on the outing. Following what was an eye-opening spring for the eventual MIAA "A" Conference champion Archbishop Spalding out of the bullpen, Vargas continued his dominance this summer that led to his performance down at LakePoint. The outing was quick for the big right-hander and for good reason racking up five strikeouts in the two-innings of work. The confidence and moxie are evident, working the over-powering 91-93 mph fastball to both sides of the plate with a consistent ability to induce swing and miss in and out of the zone. As impressive as the heater was, the curveball opened my eyes the most, showcasing the ability to spin at will in any count for strikes while keeping hitters off balance and guessing.

Spin rate and other metrics may not jump off the page, but the stuff plays and the imposing look creates uncomfortable at-bats for opposing hitters on a consistent basis. The ability to mix in any count and compete in the zone on a national stage should not be overlooked, as Vargas now turns his attention to multiple phone calls from college coaches.
