The Thomas Wootton Patriots took advantage of three homeruns to defeat the Damascus Hornets 10-2 in early season Montgomery County action over spring break.
Scoring started immediately in the game when Damascus struck first in the top half of the inning, with Mark Kline scoring on a single off the bat of sophomore Nick Marley to take an early 1-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Hornets, that was the last time they would have the lead.
Wootton responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a 2-RBI double from the bat off Pats starting pitcher Harrison Cance. After a quick top of the second, Wootton would strike in a big way in the second with two 2-run homeruns in the inning, first a off the bat of leadoff man Ryan Mariani, who jumped a high fastball off Damascus starter Ethan Wentzlaf. The second homerun came two hitters later off the bat of Cance, a shot down the left field line and his fourth RBI of the day after two plate appearances.
Cance would settle in on the mound, scattering four hits over five innings allowing one run. Wootton would add insurance with two more runs in the third and a run each in the fourth and fifth inning.
Cance finished the day 3-for-3 with four RBI and Mariani was 2-for-2 with four RBI.
Damascus was paced by Kline and Marley, who had two hits each.
