Andrew Wanger threw a shutout giving up four hits and striking out 13 to give Brunswick the 1A state title.
Tyler Ebbets got the scoring started early for Brunswick in the second inning hitting a double over the left fielders head and scoring Justin Walls who led the inning off with a single.
The game became a pitcher’s duel as Wanger and McDonough Dale Arbaugh would run through each line up for the next three innings without giving up many base runners. Wanger was able to rely on good control with his fastball and breaking ball and was able to entice the Rams hitters to chase pitches out of the strike zone when ahead in the count.
In the top of the seventh inning and the score at 1-0, the Railroaders would get to McDonough reliever David Larson in his second inning of work. Walls would start the inning with a walk and an Ebberts single would put runner at first and third with no outs. Joe Rindone then singled to left field scoring Walls making the score 2-0. Two outs later, Wanger helped himself out at the plate by knocking in two runs on a double to deep left center.
Wanger got stronger as the game ended, striking out eight of the last ten hitters of the contest.
McDonough was led offensively by Brant Butler who had two hits for McDonough.
Brunswick was led by Wanger (2-for-4, 2 RBI), and Ebberts (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
