Scouting Report
6/20/17 - MD Top Prospect Games
Newman is a strong, athletic third basemen and right handed hitter. At the plate, he has an advanced setup and swing. He utilizes a bat tip and leg kick combination that gives him rhythm and the ability to get the barrel on the ball. He does not get cheated as he swings with the intent to do damage. He has some bat speed and extension and showed capability of putting the ball deep in the gaps. At third base, he has efficient footwork to go along with strong glove work. He has a solid transfer and loose arm action that allows him to put the ball on target consistently. Newman will provide depth to whatever program he joins.
2.19.17 - Strong frame at 5-8, 200-pounds. Hits from a slightly open set up. Short rock back with leg kcik load to hitting position. Nice rhythm and balance. Shorter direct path to the baseball with uphill finish and extension through contact. Creates bat speed at the plate and shows power potential. Moves well with confident first step from third base. Hands are sound with clean exchange and gets rid of ball quickly. Throws across the diamond at 77mph. Exit velocity of 90 mph. Interesting one to keep an eye on in the 2018 class. Nice offensive option.
5.22.16: Newman is 5-8 and has a strong, athletic frame. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and he stays on line to a square landing and an athletic finish. Fastball has plane and slight cut, sat 76-77. Curveball has gradual 12/6 break and decent armspeed, running 67-69. Pitch should sharpen as he develops. Fading change-up with decent armspeed, 67-69.
9.23.15: Hit from a balanced stance that stood slightly open. Good rhythm in his hands at start. Smooth load back. Stride foot got back on line. Average lower half turn to the ball. Quick hands with bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Good approach to the round. Short and level swing path with extension. Line drive hitter with gap power. Really attacks the ball. In the field, threw from a loose, high ¾ arm slot. Throws had accuracy. Positional velocity of 73mph. Good glove presentation with average hands. Footwork was methodical. Quick, clean exchanges. Plays through the ball when feet are quick.
