The Unsigned Senior Games were held on October 23 at Mount St. Mary's University. over 30 uncommitted seniors in the 2017 class were in attendance in front of the PBR Maryland staff as well as numerous colleges throughout the region. It was a great event and already we have seen six of the participants make their commitment since the event. Today we give you the first edition of the event analysis.
Bryan Bell 2B/OF Bohemia Manor 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds. Ran a 4.55 home-to-1st. Exit velocity of 87mph. Hits from a balanced, square set up. Smooth load with good rhythm. Level bat path to the ball with good extension through contact. Shows some bat speed. Sound hands and feet in the field. Quick, compact arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Throws across the diamond at 74mph. Active feet and works through the ball in the outfield. Clean exchange throwing from a high ¾ arm slot with throws up to 80mph from the outfield.
Noah Brack LHP St. Michaels 2017
Lanky, projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 155-pounds. Pitched 78-80mph topping out at 81mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with slight effort. Repeatable delivery with good rhythm. Good use of bottom half getting down the mound. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with tight rotation and downward break. Breaking ball was 67-69mph. Changeup was 72-73mph with average arm speed with slight fade at times. Arm strength should increase as he fills out and gets stronger.
Michael Brown 3B/1B CH Flowers 2017
Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. Ran a 4.59 home-to-1st. Hits from a balanced, square set up. Smooth load getting into launch position. Level path to the ball with an uphill finish through contact. Good use of getting bottom half and hips involved. Exit velocity of 87mph. Sound feet and hands in the field along with good balance. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a compact arm action. Throws across the diamond at 77mph.
Patrick Burke OF/RHP Loudon Co. 2017 (Roanoke Commit)
Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Ran a 4.40 home-to-1st. Hits from a tall, balanced setup with a wide stance. Good rhythm with a repeatable approach. Level bat path to the ball that finishes uphill. Good extension through contact. Opportunity to drive bottom half more. Exit velocity of 89mph. Showed active feet and soft hands in the field. Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a quick, compact arm action. Throws across the diamond of 79mph. Worked through the ball well in the outfield. Showed a clean exchange and transition throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws from the outfield had good carry on them at 86mph…Pitched 80-83mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a quick arm action and some effort. Delivery was repeatable while showing good rhythm overall. Can finish tall at times through release. Breaking ball showed 11/7 shape with average rotation. Breaking ball was 62-63mph. Threw changeup with near fastball arm speed. Showed slight fade and sink on the pitch. Changeup was 70-73mph.
Jared Caudell C Clear Spring 2017
Tall, lanky frame at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds. Ran a 4.79 home-to-1st. Hits from a slightly preloaded setup. Limited load in hands with a short stride. Short path to the ball with an uphill swing path to contact and through finish. Opportunity to use bottom half more. Exit velocity of 74mph. Slightly closed setup receiving. Soft hands and sticks ball well. Sound footwork and exchange to throwing position. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a longer arm action. Pop-time ranged 2.32 – 2.38. Throws to second base were 69mph.
Noah Clement OF Walt Whitman 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot-0, 160-pounds. Ran a 4.39 home-to-1st. Hits from a slightly open and preloaded setup. Smooth load getting into launch position. Level bat path to the ball with good extension through contact. Good balance and rhythm overall. Exit velocity of 76mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a quick, compact arm action. Active feet with a quick, clean exchange. Solid body control and balance showing athleticism in both the outfield and infield. Throws across the diamond at 74mph. Throws from the outfield at 78mph.
Alex Cordon SS St. Vincent Palotti 2017 (Chesapeake Commit)
Compact frame at 5-foot-6, 140-pounds. Ran a 4.46 home-to-1st. Hits from an athletic, balanced setup. Smooth load and rhythm. Short path to the ball with some lift through contact. Good intent on swings, opportunity to drive bottom half more. Exit velocity of 76mph. Active feet and soft hands in the field. Good lateral movement and angles to the ball. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a compact arm action. Throws across the diamond at 73mph.
Elindsey Dodson SS/RHP St. Charles 2017
Compact frame at 5-foot-7, 170-pounds. Ran a 5.05 home-to-1st. Hits from a tall, slightly preloaded setup. Smooth load with rhythm from a low hand setup. Gets uphill with swing path through contact. Exit velocity of 75mph. Sound feet and hands in the field. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a compact act action. Throws across the field at 72mph. Pitched 64-70mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with limited effort. Slight pause in delivery as he works down the mound. Two seem fastball showed good arm side run at times. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with average rotation and sweeping action. Breaking ball was 57-62mph.
Michael Dodson C Jefferson (WV) 2017
Strong frame at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. Ran a 4.68 home-to-1st. Switch hitter who hits from a balanced, square setup from the right side. Smooth load with rhythm. Gets caught on the backside at times with weight transfer. Level bat path to the ball with an uphill finish through extension. Good bat speed. Hits from a tall, slightly open setup from the left side. Level swing path to the ball with an uphill finish. Cuts off top hand at times through contact and extension. Opportunity to show more balance and rhythm from the left side but displays good bat speed from this side as well. Exit velocity of 86mph. Slightly open setup receiving. Soft hands and sticks balls well. Sound footwork fielding bunts. Short, compact arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Improved quickness in exchange will lower pop-times with his arm strength. Pop-time ranged 2.15 – 2.29. Throws to second base at 75mph.
Ryan Downes 1B St. Maria Goretti 2017
Strong frame at 6-foot-1, 235-pounds. Ran a 4.80 home-to-1st. Hits from a tall, square set up. Smooth load with good rhythm. Bat path has lift through contact and finish. Even with current power there is opportunity to drive backside more. Above average bat speed. Exit velocity of 96mph. Sound feet and hip control around the bag. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. Throws across the diamond at 80mph.
