Unsigned Senior Games: Middle Infield Analysis

Over 30 players from across the Old Line State, Delaware, and Virginia, participated in this year's PBR Maryland Unsigned Senior Games at McCurdy Field in Frederick. Players were put through a pro-style workout and played a game in front of our PBR Maryland scouting staff with Trackman and Blast also on hand to record data. Below are evaluations on the four catchers from the event.
MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Drew Buckmaster 2B / RHP / Centennial, MD / 2021
Body: 5’11’’, 140 pounds. Athletic, lanky frame Hit: RHH. Hits from a tall, slightly open stance with hands pre-set. Smooth back load with some hand separation, staying short to the ball. Whippy type barrel action through the zone with quick hands through contact. Slightly uphill swing path with some lift in the swing and solid extension. Some lower half involvement with a solid middle of the field line drive approach. Power: 87 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Strength present in the swing with some pop to the pull side. Arm: RH. INF - 74 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Surrounds the ball well with quick feet. Fields the ball out in front, funneling to the belt with quick, clean exchanges. Shows soft hands with solid momentum on throws to the target. Run: 7.62 60-yard time.

Evan Slaybaugh SS / 2B / St. Mark's , DE / 2021
Body: 5’10’’, 150 pounds. Athletic body frame. Hit: Switch. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, square stance at the plate from the right side. Smooth back load with slight hand wiggle and solid hand separation. Elongated stride with a slight leg kick, utilizing quick hands and bat speed through the zone. Really nice extension through contact with some natural lift in the finish. Strong, balanced one handed finish. A more upright start in the swing from the left side. Solid hand separation with quick twitch in the load with a bigger leg kick. Quick hands and fast bat speed through the zone with an uphill swing path. Gap to gap line drive approach from both sides, showing present strength to the alleys. Power: 85 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Present pop to the pull side with more projection of power from the left side. Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarter slot. Defense: Attacks the ball and gets around it well with quick, active feet. Fields the ball out in front, funneling to the belt. Smooth, fundamental actions with soft hands and clean exchanges. Run: 7.35 60-yard time.

Body: 5’10’’, 180 pounds. Athletic, strong, physical body frame. Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, open stance at the plate. Quiet body with solid hand separation and quick, explosive hands through the zone. Fast bat speed with quick twitch and strong lower half involvement. Keeps his hands inside well, staying behind the ball with a smooth gap to gap line drive approach. Really nice barrel awareness with a strong, powerful swing, finishing with two hands. Power: 101 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Present strength and power to the gaps and alleys with more projected. Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Attacks the ball with quick, active feet. Fundamental footwork, fielding the ball out in front and funnels to the chest. Quick, clean exchanges showing the ability to throw from various arm slots. Run: 7.77 60-yard time.

Joshua Wagner OF / SS / Middletown , MD / 2021
Body: 5’10’’, 160 pounds. Strong, athletic body type. Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched stance at the plate. Hands pre-set at the top of the zone with some hand separation. Slight leg kick load with whippy type barrel action through contact. Keeps his hands inside the ball well with quick hands. Slight lift in the swing with a strong middle of the field approach. Solid line drive swing with a high one handed finish. Power: 85 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Pull side pop present. Arm: RH. INF - 71 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Surrounds the ball with quick and active feet, fielding it out in front. Quick, clean exchanges with solid momentum towards the target. Run: 7.40 60-yard time.
