On Sunday, February 15, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its first event of 2015, the Underclass Invitational for members of the 2017 and 2018 graduating classes. Over 70 players showcased their skills for PBR staff at Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, Virginia. All of these players will be eligible to receive invites to the Top Prospect Games (2017 Grads) at English Field on the campus of Virginia Tech and the Top Prospect Games (2018 Grads) at Liberty University this summer. Players from this event will also be eligible to be selected to represent Team Virginia/D.C. in the Future Games Powered by Under Armour that will take place in Westfield, IN on July 29 – August 1.

First Base analysis:
Jorge Arrate, 1B, St. Stephens and St. Agnes, 2017
Hit from the right side and has a tall, balanced open stance. His load is smooth back and he has a leg kick stride. He has a good lower half with decent balance throughout his swing. His bat path is level and long with extension. He has a good approach and a line drive, gap to gap swing with some power. Has a fluid rhythm. His exit velocity off of the tee was 74 mph. Defensively, Arrate has a short, high three-quarters arm action. His footwork is good around first base and he has decent athleticism.
Connor Baine, 1B, Paul VI, 2018
Baine has an athletic frame and is quick, running a 4.20 home to first from the right side of the plate. He has a tall, balanced, open athletic stance. He hits with no load and a short stride and has good balance throughout his swing. His lower half is explosive and he has a fast bat that generated an exit velocity off of the tee of 84 mph. He has a short, level path with extension and has a line drive, gap to gap swing. Defensively, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. He has quick feet and is athletic around the the bag.
Drew Davis, 1B, Fauquier, 2018
Davis hits from the right side and has a crouched, open stance. He bars his arm on his load and has no stride. He has a decent lower half and average balance throughout his swing. His exit velocity was 71 mph off of the tee. He has a long, uphill swing path. Defensively, Davis throws from his ear with a short, high three-quarters arm slot.
Stephen Gerade, 1B, T.C. Williams, 2017
Gerade hits from the right side and has a tall, balanced, open stance. He wraps his bat during his load and has a short stride. He has a good approach with average balance throughout his swing. Has average batspeed, generating an exit velocity of 67 mph off of the tee. He has a good approach and a long swing that generates line drives. Defensively, Gerade throws from a three-quarters arm slot and has average footwork around the bag.
Wes Glass, 1B, Tuscarora, 2018
Glass hits from the left side and has a tall, athletic stance. He has no load and a short, leg kick stride. He has an explosive lower half and fast bat speed that generated an exit velocity off of the tee of 74 mph. He has a good gap to gap approach and a short, level bat path with good extension and a fluid rhythm. Defensively, Glass throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. His footwork is good and he has a decent exchange.
Joshua Heigh, 1B, Riverdale Baptist, 2017
Heigh hits from the left side from a crouched stance. He has a short load back and a short stride. He has a decent lower half and above average bat speed that generated an exit velocity of 72 mph off of the tee. He has above average balance throughout his swing and a short, level bat path. Defensively, he has a short, stiff arm action and throws from the high three-quarters arm slot. He has fluid footwork and plays through the ball well.
Reilly Hughes, 1B, Bishop Ireton, 2017
Hughes hits from the left side from a closed, crouched stance. He wraps into an armbar a bit as he loads back and he takes a short stride. He has average balance throughout his swing and has an inside-out, oppo approach. Defensively, Hughes has a high three-quarters arm slot and methodical footwork. He has soft hands and decent exchange.
Brian Hurley, 1B, Lake Braddock, 2018|
Hurley has an athletic 6-0 tall frame and hits from the right side from a tall, open stance. He wraps into an armbar as he loads and has a short stride. He has average balance throughout his swing and average bat speed, his exit velocity off of the tee was 79 mph. He has a good approach and is a line drive hitter with a short bat path. Defensively, Hurley throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action. He has decent footwork rounding the ball and around the base and is pretty athletic, running a 4.53 from home to first.
Dion Marrow, 1B, Blessed Sacrament-Hugenot, 2018
Marrow stands 5-11 and has a strong lower half to his frame. He hits from the right side from a tall, balanced stance. He has no load and a short stride. He has an explosive lower half and a fast bat that generated an exit velocity of 85 mph off of the tee. He has a short swing path with good extension and works gap to gap with some power. Defensively, Marrow throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short, stiff arm action. He has average feet but has an understanding of how to position himself properly working around the bag.
David Pettengill, 1B, Stafford, 2017
Pettengill has a tall, athletic frame, standing 6-6. He hits from the left side and has decent speed for a big guy, with a home to first time of 4.50. He has a tall stance with minimal load and a short stride. His lower half is decent and he has average balance throughout his swing. He has a long, level bat path and is a gap to gap hitter with power to his pull side. Defensively, Pettengill is a right-handed thrower and throws from a high three-quarters slot with a longer, stiff arm action. He has average footwork and is fluid around the bag with average hands.
Logan Sanders, 1B, North Stafford, 2017
Sanders hits from the left side and has a tall, balanced stance. His load is back and he has a medium stride. He has an explosive lower half and good balance throughout his swing with average batspeed that generated an exit velocity of 76 mph off of the tee. He has a good, line drive approach and a short, level bat path with a fluid rhythm to his swing. Defensively, Sanders throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action. He has quick feet and a good understanding of how to move around first base and average hands.
Colin Taeschner, 1B, Calvert, 2018
Taeschner hits from the left side and has an athletic stance. He loads back and has good balance throughout his swing and average bat speed, with an exit velocity of 77 mph off of the tee. He has a short bat path to the ball and has an opposite field, line drive approach. He is quick out of the box, running a 4.37 from home to first. Defensively, Taeschner throws from a high three-quarters arm slot and has a short arm action. He has average hands and is athletic around the bag.
