PENSACOLA, FL - The University of West Florida hosted their 11th annual Fall JUCO Bonanza October 4th through the 7th at Jim Spooner Field. This event brought together 12 Junior Colleges from the Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama. PBR Florida was on-hand for the entirety of the event, providing coverage. Gulf Coast State
Hunter Milam, LHP, Gulf Coast State (FL)
6-foot-1, 200-pound left-handed pitcher, athletic build, muscular, strength in lower half. Clean, deliberate delivery, easy effort, comes to balance point, leads with front foot, keeps hips closed until plant, lands toe-closed, pivots to square, finishes with a short cross-over. Clean arm swing, slow draw, accelerates with easy effort, over-the-top slot. Fastball sat 90-92, located inside, induced swing and misses up in the zone. Slider, 1/7 shape, some feel for, kept hitters off-balance with due to fastball command. Changeup, 80, sinking action.
Brett Wisely, INF/RHP, Gulf Coast State (FL)
South Florida commit. 5-foot-10, 175-pound, athletically-built, high motor competitor, left-handed hitting two-way prospect. Offensively, open, athletic setup, smooth load. Hands work athletically through the zone, has ability to hit to all fields, hit the furthest ball of the weekend on a two-run home run to right field. Clean drop and drive delivery, quick arm swing, some length to it, high ¾ slot. Creates deception in delivery by changing timing. Shows some polish. Fastball sat 87-89 some armside run. Changeup, thrown aggressively, late life, 80-82. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 71-72. Legitimate two-way prospect.
Jack Guzek, RHP, Gulf Coast State (FL)
6-foot-4, 215-pound, right-handed pitcher, lanky XL frame with room for added mass. Loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Repeats delivery with athleticism, works on-line, lands toe-closed. Fastball sat 89-92, high volume of strikes with. Curveball, 74-76, 11/5 shape, depth.
Jacob Kates, UTL/RHP, Gulf Coast State (FL)
6-foot-3, 200-pound left-handed hitting utility player, projectable frame, strong, athletic. Short, quick arm action, gets to release quickly, high ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands toe-closed, finishing athletically. Fastball sat 88-89 with run. Curveball, aggressive with, 11/5 shape, depth and late bite, induced swing and miss, 73-74.
Coastal Alabama South
Mario Galloway, OF, Coastal Alabama South (AL)
5-foot-11, 188-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder, athletically-built, broad shoulders. Offensively, found barrels in both games, athletic, crouching setup, hands and wrists work through the zone, present bat speed. Takes a gap-to-gap approach, drove the ball. In one at-bat hit a double to the wall in left-center. Aggressive base runner, has speed to steal bags.
Sam Harris, SS, Coastal Alabama South (AL)
6-foot-1, 163-pound left-handed hitting shortstop, lanky, high-waist, athletic frame. Stood out for his work on the defensive side. Made every play that came his way. Showed lateral quickness, an instinctive first step, fluid footwork, clean on transfers, quick to release, good body control on plays made on the run.
Coastal Alabama North
Andrew Lambert, RHP, Coastal Alabama North (AL)
6-foot-4, 225-pound, physical, broad shoulders, lanky frame, right-handed pitcher. Long arm action, shows high on back-side, high ¾ slot. High leg kick at balance point, tall and fall delivery, carries momentum downhill, steps towards third, lands square, finishes crossing over. Given length and delivery, creates awkward angles. Fastball sat 87-89, flashed armside run. Slider, tight spin, showed feel, 81 mph.
Trace Holder, RHP, Coastal Alabama North (AL)
6-foot, 170-pound proportionally-built right-handed pitcher. Drop and drive delivery, short arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 85-86 for most part, touched 88 and 89 once. Curveball, 11/5 shape, depth, flashed sharp action, feel for, 73-77. Changeup, fade action, 76-77.
