Top Newcomers To The 2018 rankings

With our recent release of the class of 2018 updated rankings, we take a look at some of the top newcomers to the rankings.

David Erickson RHP Cape Henlopen (DE) – No. 9
Sometimes the rich get richer. Cape Henlopen, already boasting the top two players in the 2018 class with Austin Elliott and Zack Gelof, had one of the biggest stories of the summer with the growth of their RHP David Erickson. Playing for the Delmarva Aces this summer, Erickson showed steady increase on the mound and was as high as 90 mph at one point, being a consist 84-88. Erickson peaked our interest throwing 84-86 on the mound at week two of the PBR MD summer kickoff at UMBC and continued to grow as the summer progressed. He recently committed to Liberty.

Kevin Madden SS St. Pauls (MD) – No. 10
Madden has been at two events this summer, the Big 26 and then the PBR Future Games. Madden boasts plenty of versatility in the field with the ability to play anywhere on the diamond and has showed his most comfort and talent at shortstop and third base. He has quick reactions and a strong arm (88 mph). He hits from wider, athletic set up and shows a level swing path with fast bat speed. Madden has already sparked much interest taking full advantage of his limited exposure.

David (Trip) Willis OF Red Lion Christian (DE) – No. 11
Willis was another riser for Team Mid-Atlantic at the PBR Future Games. A strong athletic build (6-foot-2, 190-pounds) with quick twitch and athleticism to boot, Willis is another that has flown under the radar over the summer and taking full advantage of his opportunities. Willis showed off his speed at the Future Games being a menace on the base paths and showed his bat speed off during his BP session. Willis walked six times during the games, and his lone swing was a rifle line drive off the right-center fence.

Tyler Green LHP Northeast (MD) – No. 18
A competitive left-handed arm that has just transferred to Northeast, Green has a competitive flair on the mound and pitches in the mid 80's. Green recently committed to JMU.

Josh Maguire SS Salesianum (DE) – No. 19
Maguire is an offensive infielder hitting from the left side. Shows 6.8 speed in the 60-yard dash and a sweet left handed swing. Smaller frame at 5-foot-8, 160-pounds but packs plenty of punch and ability. Maguire recently made his verbal commitment to Maryland.

Luke Rettig LHP Wilmington Christian (DE) – No. 31
Rettig is a raw pitching prospect with a loose and free arm action that has been up to 85 mph. His lanky projectable frame (6-foot-2, 160-pounds) peaked plenty of interest at the Future Games. He has shown the ability to spin the breaking ball pretty well with late life and competes well on the mound.

Other players to make their way into the top 50 of the rankings for the first time include Nate Thomas (St. Elizabeth, DE, No. 37), Will Glock (Loyola-Blakefield, MD, No. 40), Jarvis Worthy Jr. (Dover, DE, No. 46), and Connor Feustle (Mount St. Joseph, MD, No. 47).
