Today our Spring Forward series takes a look at some of the top power hitters to watch swing the bat in 2019. If you like offense and want to see the ball fly around the yard this Spring; do yourself a favor and get out to see some of the guys on this list. You won't be disappointed!

Jack Bulger C / 3B / DeMatha, MD / 2020 University of Vanderbilt 2020 commit Jack Bulger is arguably one of the best hitters in the state. In 2018, Bulger slugged .511 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs, 34 RBI’s and scored 20 runs for the WCAC runner-up DeMatha Stags. Expect to see Bulger play another major role in the middle of the lineup for the Stags in 2019 as they look to make another run at a WCAC title.

Clark Burroughs C / 1B / DeMatha, MD / 2019 DeMatha catching prospect Clark Burroughs will play another key role in the Stags lineup in 2019. The College of Charleston commit hit .343 and slugged .486 with 9 doubles, 2 home runs, and had 32 RBI’s last season. Burroughs will need to have another big year at the plate if DeMatha hopes to make another run at dethroning St. John’s for a WCAC crown in 2019.

Parker Landwehr C / OF / Calvert Hall, MD / 2019 The senior Calvert Hall backstop and Boston College commit is coming off a huge year for the Cardinals in 2018. Landwehr hit .465 and slugged .518 with 2 home runs, 15 runs batted in, and scored 16 runs. The 2019 Cardinals have what looks to be a strong team on paper and should be a strong contender for this year’s MIAA title. Expect to see Landwehr sit in the middle of the lineup and play a critical role for the Cardinals in 2019.

Tyler Locklear 3B / C / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2019 Archbishop Curley third basemen and VCU commit Tyler Locklear played a key role in Curley’s run to it’s first MIAA Championship since 2001 last season. Not only did he hit a leadoff home run in the final against Gilman that sparked the Friars 12 hit barrage that evening but his 2018 power numbers were somewhat silly. Locklear hit .355 and slugged .753 with 7 doubles, 10 home runs, 35 RBI’s, and scored 39 runs for the Friars. Look for Locklear to lead the Friars offense again in 2019 as they look to repeat as MIAA Conference Champions.

Justin Looney C / Mount St. Joseph, MD / 2019 Mount St. Joseph will lean on the big bat of Longwood commit Justin Looney in 2019. Looney slugged .631 last season with 8 extra base hits, 4 home runs and drove in 12 runners. Looney also scored 23 runs for the Gaels last season and will once again play a major role in the lineup this season under first year head coach Phil Kraska.

Josh Moylan 1B / 3B / Archbishop Spalding, MD / 2020 The left-handed hitting first basemen from Archbishop Spalding led the Cavaliers last season in average, hits, doubles, triples, RBI’s and tied for the lead with home runs. Moylan batted .361 and slugged .604 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, and knocked in 27. The 2020 East Carolina commit will once again play a major role in Spalding’s lineup as they look to contend for the MIAA title in 2019.

Jose Torres SS / Calvert Hall, MD / 2019 North Carolina State commit Jose Torres is drawing national attention as the MLB draft approaches. Coming off a stellar performance in 2018, Calvert Hall’s senior shortstop will look to pick right up where he left off. Torres hit .472 and slugged .847 with 8 extra base hits, 6 home runs, and 16 RBI’s. He also scored 24 runs for the Cardinals.

Kyle Whitaker 3B / RHP / McDonogh, MD / 2020 The uncommitted 2020 McDonogh prospect can really swing it as evidenced at this past summer’s PBR Maryland Future Games Trials. Whitaker recorded a 94 mph exit velo at the event and hit some missiles during batting practice at the University of Maryland. Expect to see Whitaker take another step forward this Spring and become a key bat in the middle of the lineup for the Eagles.
