Scouting Report
Preseason All-State Session I
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP
Body: 6’2”, 173 pounds. Long, lanky, athletic, projectable frame.
Hit: LHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance. Creates good hand separation with a small toe tap load and average stride. Attacks the ball with intent using an uphill swing path. Stays short to the ball with some lower half involvement. Maintains solid balance with quick hands and fast bat speed through swing. Creates good extension through the zone and past contact. Great gap-to-gap line drive approach, barreling up a ton of balls during BP rounds.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Strong pull side pop with more projected.
Arm: LH. INF - 77 mph. Longer arm action from a mid to high three quarter slot.
Defense: Surrounds the ball well, funneling it to the belt. Works through the ball, fielding it out in front with soft hands and quick feet. Opens up and squares shoulders nicely on double play feeds to second base.
Run: 4.56 home-to-first time.
Delivery: Started mostly out of the stretch, into a chest high leg kick. Delivery allows him to hide the ball well with deception. Generates good torque out of his lower half and gets out over his landing knee regularly. Hand separation is on time and fluid. Lands in a good fielding position.
Arm Action: LH. Throws downhill out of a low three-quarter arm slot.
FB: T80 mph, 78-80 mph. Subtle cut action.
CB: 62-63 mph. Loopy 2/8 shape.
CH: 68-71 mph.
Brendan Yagesh LHP/1B Urbana (MD)
Long projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. On the mound starts the delivery with a small rocker step, hands have some flow, and gets to a higher balance point gathered over the rubber. Hips and shoulders tilted and elevated moving down the mound, lands on line at foot strike, and tends to fall off slightly to the third base side. Full arm circle and arm has some whip getting through from a high three-quarter arm slot. Fastball was downhill at times with some arm side run and got early contact in game. Breaking ball had 1/7 shape and Yagesh showed the feel to throw it in any count. Hits from the left side with an athletic slightly open stance, uses a small toe tap stride and lands closed, and swings with intent. Bat path is uphill and showed pull side tendency with some power potential built into the swing. Exit velocity was 80 mph. At first base feet worked laterally off the bag, higher posture on approach, and soft hands to catch. Full arm circle and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 77 mph. 60 time was 7.85.
MD Top Prospect Games West 6.26.19
Long, lean athletic body type and projectable 6’2’’, 165 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance from the left side. Slight rock-back load and uses a toe-tap for timing. Explosive lower half involvement in the swing and stays behind the ball really well. Short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Showed quick hands and quick bat speed. Body gets uphill through contact with good extension and high one-handed finish. Also showed nice balance in the box throughout. Nice gap-to-gap approach with some power present and much more projected. Recorded a 79 mph exit velocity. Athletic and rangy at first base. Moves well and sets up to the ball nicely. Works through the ball with fundamental footwork and showed clean exchanges to second base on double play feeds. Throws with long arm action from a mid to high three-quarter slot at 77 mph. Ran a 7.85 60-yard time. Controlled side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall balance point. Strong down-to-out lower half drive off the rubber. Lands square to the plate with an athletic, slightly upright finish. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarter slot with regular effort. Creates quick arm speed through release and gets good extension. Fastball sat 76-80 mph and touched 81 mph. Breaking ball was 65-67 mph with 11/5 shape and changeup was 73-74 mph with slight fade.
