ST. PAUL’S
HEAD COACH: Pat Walsh
CONFERENCE: MIAA “A”
2014 RECORD: 20-8
CONFERENCE FINISH: 4th
RETURNING STARTERS: 6
TOP RETURNERS:
Ryan Glendon
Spencer Horwitz
Jake Sebastian
Tony Schultz
Conor Brown
Ricardo Duncan
TEAM STRENGTHS:
St. Paul’s return six starters from their lineup and 12 returners overall. That uniformity will play well with the team as they strive to make a run this year in the MIAA “A” division. The demand for strength at the catcher position is one that can get overlooked and St. Paul’s has two top quality catchers in Junior’s Spencer Horwitz and Jake Sebastian. Both have the versatility to play multiple positions with Horwitz adding to the infield depth and Sebastian to the outfield. Both will see time at other positions to keep their athleticism in the lineup.
QUESTION MARK:
Pitching. St. Paul’s lost 80% of their innings pitched from last year’s staff. They will have depth with close to ten pitchers, but none have the innings or experience. Tony Schultz, Ryan Glendon (Va Wesleyan commit), Parker Green, Horwitz, and Sebastian all will see time on the mound and are potential candidates to lead the staff.
WILDCARD:
2016 Liam Flayhart is a transfer from Calvert Hall at the pitcher position. Flayhart has hit a growth spurt and has shown an increase in velocity which could translate to adding inexperienced pitching staff.
Ricardo Duncan, a junior, shows a lot of tools with a good frame and could be a potential breakout performer this season.
OVERALL:
A lot of what happens for St. Paul’s this year will depend on the young junior class. They have plenty of talent, but it is largely unproven. Look for St. Paul’s to become a better team as the season progresses and they gain more experience.
