With that in mind, let’s take an in depth look at the Maryland and area prospects who have committed to colleges over the course of this summer, with detailed scouting information when applicable.
Zach Adams, C, Stephen Decatur, 2016
Mount St. Mary’s
6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-11 175-pounds. Short and loose arm action with carry on throws. Catcher velocity got up to 77 mph. Sound footwork and clean exchange. Athletic behind the plate and controls body well. Pop times ranged from 2.01- 2.08. At the plate hit from a slightly open setup with a short stride into load. Level bat path with quick bat speed. Direct to the baseball. Average balance in swing with some rhythm. Gap-to-gap style hitter with some rhythm. Interesting skill set, one to keep an eye on. 4.60 home to first time and 89 mph exit velocity

Maryland
5.14.15 - Shows advanced ability and awareness as an infielder. A quick first step with smooth actions and strong defensive ability. As he gets stronger his arm strength should increase to play the shortstop position. Legitimate switch-hitter. Quick out of the box with bat speed as a left-handed hitter. Very high ceiling will be fun to watch and follow as he develops.
Gunner Barnard, RHP, Marriotts Ridge, 2017
Maryland
7.9.15 - An interesting 2017 is Marriotts Ridge pitcher Gunner Barnard. The righty sat 81-83 with quick arm action. Has a nice frame to build upon. Right now it’s a lot of arm in delivery so once he gets more involvement with the body could be an interesting prospect.
Kyle Benjamin, SS, Bishop McNamara, 2016
UMBC
6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-11 165-pounds. Hits from an open set up with a longer stride. Short bat path to the ball with some bat speed. Stays inside the baseball with some extension. Good balance in swing. As he gets more consistent with lower half involvement could create some more pop. Active and fluid footwork from the middle infield. Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Throws were accurate and consistent at 77 mph across the diamond. Clean exchange and works through the ball. Ran a 4.56 home to first and had an exit velocity of 81 mph.
Jaret Bennett, LHP/1B, Col. Richardson, 2016
Charleston-Southern
2.21.15 - Jaret Bennett is a 6-foot-1 185-pound LHP. Pitching from a high ¾ arm slot, he showed good athleticism in his delivery and a fluid rhythm. His free and quick arm displayed a velocity of 84 mph maxing out at 86 with run and downhill action. He threw a 2/8 breaking ball with near fastball arm speed and late break. Throws a split with gradual break at 68 mph and showed feel for a changeup with late fade. Breaking ball has potential to be power pitch. The very projectable pitcher displays early flashes of being a power arm from the left side and potentially a two way talent.
Chris Blair, LHP, Southern, 2016
Millersville
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 155-pounds. Controlled delivery with a loose arm action and some arm speed. Pitches with regular effort. Looks to have more in the tank as he fills out his frame. Fastball up to 82 mph in the spring when last seen. Breaking ball had 2/8 action with tight rotation and late break. Inconsistent command of the breaking ball with near fastball arm speed. Shows nice feel for a changeup with command.
Ryan Brown, OF, Saint James, 2016
Charleston-Southern
6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 170 pounds. Balanced set up. Fluid rhythm in swing. Occasionally gets on front foot but balance is strong in swing. Short path and fast bat speed with some extension and some potential for pop. Gap-to-gap style hitting. Throws from an over-the-top arm angle with a long arm action. Throws have carry on them at 83 mph. Soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange and plays through the ball well. Ran a 4.25 home-to-first and had an exit velocity of 90 mph.
Carl James Brown, C, St. Mary’s, 2016
Stevenson
Compact frame at 5-foot-6, 175-pounds. Hits from a balanced setup. Level bat path with average bat speed. Nice job of consistently getting barrell to the ball. Exit velocity of 79 mph. Has a higher crouch, receives well with soft hands. Quick clean exchange, tendency to fall to third base side causing fade on some throws. When stays in line, throws had nice carry on them with a catcher velocity of 74 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.05 -2.14.
Grant Burleson, LHP, Parkside, 2017
Maryland
2.21.15 - Grant Burleson is a 5-foot-10 155-pound LHP. With excellent arm speed, Burleson pitched in this early bullpen at 86 mph and shows more in the tank. He pitches from a high ¾ arm slot and free arm action. He has a smooth and clean delivery with regular effort and good rhythm. His fastball had late run on it and he showed good command of the pitch. His breaking ball had 1/7 break with power action and fastball arm speed at 71-72 mph. His changeup has sink and fade to it with fastball arm speed and sat 74-77.
Paul (Tre) D’Amico III, OF, St. Mary’s, 2016
Charleston
8.4.15 - Athletic frame and put together at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds. Level bat path to the ball with quick bat speed. Gets slightly off balance at times in swing. Nice extension through contact. Line-drive type hitter. Shows potential pop in swing with his 87 mph exit velocity. Active feet in the outfield, plays thru the ball well. Sound hands and clean exchange. Has a long arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle. throws have average carry on them at 81 mph. Ran a 7.06 60-yard dash.
Anthony Felitti, LHP, Gaithersburg, 2016
George Mason
Projectable frame with length at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Has a long arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle and quick arm speed. Controlled delivery with square finish. Fastball has been up to 88 mph and pitches 83-87. Breaking ball has tight rotation and potential as a put away pitch with 2/8 action at 75 mph. Changeup has late life and swing and miss capability at 77 mph.
Kieran Garner, RHP/3B, River Hill, 2017
Maryland
2.21.15 - Kieran Garner is a 6-foot-2 195-pound RHP/3B. Defensively, Garner throws from a low ¾ arm slot and had the best infield velocity at the event at 84 mph. He showed average actions and a quick exchange. Offensively, Garner hits from a balanced setup and has average balance throughout his swing. Has quick hands with a level bat path and a little long. Garner projects very well on the mound. Throwing from a high ¾ arm slot, he sat at 87 mph topping out at 88 mph. His fastball jumps at you with hard action and good command. His 11/5 breaking ball is sharp and he shows fastball arm speed throwing it 71-73 mph. He also shows good command of his changeup, with good sink and fastball arm speed at 74-78 mph.
Zack Gelof, SS/RHP, Cape Henlopen (DE), 2018
Virginia
2.21.15 - Zack Gelof is a 6-foot-1 175-pound athletic SS/RHP. A legitimate two-way talent, Gelof showed athletic actions with soft hands, fluid footwork, and a quick exchange. His infield velocity was 82 mph and his throws were accurate and consistent from his high ¾ arm slot. Offensively, he hit from an athletic stance and showed a short swing with quick hands to the ball and a smooth load. His exit velocity was 81 mph and he ran a 7.09 60 time indoors. On the mound, showed smooth rhythm with a quick arm speed and good sink on his fastball that sat at 82 mph. He threw from a high ¾ arm slot and showed a late action power breaking ball. He had a free and easy arm action and is a very projectable pitcher.
Bryce Greenly, OF/RHP, Milford (DE), 2018
Virginia
7.7.15 - Athletic and projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up with a smooth back load and slight lift in stride. Has a short path with a barrel that stays in zone with fast bat speed. Has balance in swing and gets good lower half usage. Power potential in this gap-to-gap style hitter. Exit velocity of 87 mph. A short and quick arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Sound footwork and stay on balls of feet. Plays through the ball well and does a nice job of keeping direction with throws and using own momentum. Throws had life on them at 89 mph. Ran a 6.96 60-yard dash.
DaVonn Griffin, OF, Hammond, 2016
James Madison
7.20.15 - Is an interesting outfield prospect. Covers ground well and has the mindset of a top of the order hitter. Throws had carry on them. Short swing with some bat speed. Gets down the line in a hurry. Has been reportedly close to 6.5 in 60-yard dash at a recent pro workout.
David Harding, SS/2B, Archbishop Spalding, 2016
Princeton
6.12.15 - Archbishop Spalding 2016 middle infield prospect David Harding shows soft and quick hands with a quick exchange turning double plays and getting rid of the baseball. Active feet with quick first step and reactions. Athletic enough could play multiple positions. Was a 4.2 down the line on home-to-first. Aggressive swing, gets on front foot at times, but shows quick hands that get in the zone with a line-drive hitting ability. 6.8 60 yard dash.
LaVale Hodges, OF, Archbishop Spalding, 2016
USC-Aiken
6.30.15 - Solid frame at 6-foot 200-pounds. Has a short and quick arm actions from the outfield throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws have carry on them at 84 mph. Fluid footwork and plays thru the ball. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Short path with fast bat speed. Front hip leaks at times. Gap-to-gap hitting style with pull side power. Room to grow with the prospect. Was a 4.44 home to first and exit velocity of 91 mph.
Spencer Horwitz, C/INF, St. Pauls, 2016
Radford
6.3.15 - Hits from an athletic setup and quick hands and a level barrel through the zone. Can get around ball at times but showed ability to get his barrel on the baseball. Creates fast bat speed. Has slight lift in swing with pull side power. Middle of order capability offensively. Athletic behind the plate. Moves well and gets out behind the box. Pop times ranged from 1.98 – 2.08. Times and accuracy will increase as gets over front leg on throws.
Jordan Hutchins, SS, Dover (DE), 2016
Delaware
7.21.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 160 pounds. Hits from an athletic set up bit of a leg kick and nice rhythm and balance in swing. Has a short path to the ball with some extension. Gets long at times. Nice lower half with quick bat speed. Exit velocity of 89 mph. Sound actions from the middle. Clean feet, smooth transfer, and a short, quick arm action that got up to 87 across the diamond from a ¾ arm angle. Ran a 7.00 60-yard dash.
Kade Keys, LHP, St. Mary’s, 2016
Shepherd University
6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 6-foot-3 180-pounds. Throws from a ¾ arm angle with arm speed and a short arm action. Pitches with some effort and falls towards third base in follow through. Pitches with some effort. Fastball had slight run at 80 mph. Breaking ball has potential to be a power pitch with 1/7 movement at 69 mph. Gets good lower half usage possibly better hip load to create torque and increase lower half efficiency
David Larson, RHP/1B, McDonough, 2016
Worcester Polytechnical Institute
6.30.15 - Lanky and athletic frame at 6-foot-2 205-pounds. Has a short arm action from a low ¾ arm angle. Makes consistent throws with carry on them from the turn at first base and got up to 67 mph. Hits from a slighty open set up with a short and quick stride. Level swing path and some bat speed. Pull side power. Gap-to-gap approach. Good balance and rhythm in swing. 4.78 home to first time and an exit velocity of 87 mph. Good athlete around the bag at first that also pitches. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with some arm speed. Loose arm action and slight wrap. Pitches with easy effort. Smooth rhythm and stays in line with a square finish. Fastball was straight at 80-84 mph. Breaking ball 10/4 movement with good rotations and near fastball arm speed at 70-72 mph.
Philip LoMedico, SS, Calvert Hall, 2016
Salisbury
6.24.15 - Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 185-pounds. Loose arm action from a low ¾ arm angle. Accurate throws with average carry at 73 mph. Soft hands, clean exchange and fluid footwork. Solid corner prospect now and would move to middle with increased foot speed. Hits from an open setup that closes a bit in stride. Quick bat speed with a short path to the ball. Gap=to-gap type hitter with rhythm in swing. Potential pop with 89 mph exit velocity. Interesting prospect to watch in the 2016 class.
Wes Martin, RHP, Winters Mill, 2016
Maryland Eastern-Shore
7.20.15 - Lanky body with room for growth. Got up to 85 mph on the mound and pitched 83 mph. Filled the strike zone up with nice tempo. Breaking ball had 11-to-5 shape and nice rotation. Very interesting prospect to follow and keep an eye on.
Brady O’Neil, C, St. Mary’s 2016
USC-Aiken
6.30.15 - Athletic build with some length at 6-foot-3 180-pounds. Hits from a slightly open set up. Simple load and short stride. Level swing path with quick bat speed. Occasionally gets out of balance in swing. Gap-to-gap style hitter and shows some power potential. Has quick feet and a short arm action from behind the plate. Gets rid of the ball and throws have some carry on them at 77 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.01 -2.1. Soft hands, quiet receiver and good body control behind the plate. Handled pitching staff very well in game. 4.70 home to first and 86 mph exit velocity. Overall good athlete that could play some other positions.
Bruce Pattishall Jr, RHP/SS, Paint Branch, 2016
Harford CC
8.4.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action and quick arm speed. Has a controlled delivery with nice tempo and rhythm. Lands in line to the plate and finishes slightly to the first base side. Fastball has gradual run to the pitch at 85 mph. Breaking ball has near fastball arm speed with tight rotation and 11/5 action with late break at 72 mph. Changeup has late sink to the pitch with near fastball arm speed at 73 mph.
Michael Richardson, SS, Cambridge South Dorchester, 2016
Campbell
6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 160 pounds. Has a short path to the ball with fast bat speed and some extension through contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter. Good balance in swing. Has a loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Throws had carry on them at 79 mph. Soft hands with active and fluid footwork. Clean exchange. Ran 4.41 home to first and had an exit velocity of 85 mph.
Bryce Rogers-Black, OF/1B, Northern, 2016
Radford
6.30.15 - Solid frame at 6-foot-2 215-pounds. Fluid footwork at first. Clean exchange and a longer arm action from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws on the turn at first base up to 72 mph. From the outfield clean exchange and played through the ball well. Velocity got up to 83 mph. Hits from a slightly open set up with a short load. Short, level path to the ball with fast bat speed. Good extension through contact with a gap-to-gap hitting style and power ability. Home to first time was 4.69 and exit velocity got up to 94 mph.

6.12.15 - Has soft hands while receiving. Quick exchange with a short arm action that gets rid of the baseball. Throws have carry on them and pop time got as low as 1.95. A line drive type hitter that uses all fields well. Shows power potential to the middle of the field.
Trevor Sprinkle, RHP, Calvert Hall, 2016
Miami-Dade CC
5.18.15 - Interesting right-handed prospect for Calvert Hall. Got as high as 86 mph and pitched in the 83-86 range. Showed a slider at 73 mph that has two-plane action when he threw consistently.
Charles Tsintolas, C, Heights, 2016
George Washington
2.22.15 Hit from a couched and balanced stance. Arm barred during load. Short toe to heel stride. Lower half exploded to the ball. Maintained good balance throughout swing. Displayed fast hands with an Exit Velocity of 84 mph. Swing path was short with good extension that worked uphill. Line drive stroke that should find the gaps. Showed signs of potential pull power. Behind the plate, threw from a high ¾ arm slot. Quick release. Pop times were 1.89 - 2.02. Throws had carry and some accuracy. Footwork was quick and gained ground to second. Great setup that was athletic. Showed soft hands with good receiving skills.

Frostburg State
8.4.15 - Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Nice body control from the crouch. Fluid rhythm, and stick ball well with soft hands. Quick exchange and clean. Gets rid of ball quickly throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have carry some carry on them with a catcher velocity of 72 mph. Pop times ranged from 2.09-2.18. His from an athletic setup. Level bat path with some bat speed. Show balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 86 mph. Ran a 8.02 60-yard dash.
Paul Wilson, RHP, John Carroll, 2016
Millersville
8.4.15 - Projectable frame with room to fill out at 6-foot-4, 170-pounds. Nice tempo in controlled delivery. Has a long arm action with quick arm speed. Nice hip load, could get more from backside. Fastball has late run and some sink to the pitch topping out at 81 mph. Shows good command of the pitch. Breaking ball has gradual break with 11-to-5 shape and near fastball arm speed. Throws pitch for strikes at 64 mph. Changeup has fade at 72 mph. Projectable delivery and frame to fill out, should increase velocity and will be interesting to follow progression throughout career.
Elliot Zoellner, RHP, St. Mary’s, 2016
Maryland
2.21.15 - Lanky, projectable frame at 6-foot-2 175-pounds. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with fast arm speed and free arm action. Displays a smooth rhythm and the ball jumps out of his hand with easy effort. Throws a heavy fastball with some run at 89 mph. He also threw a few fastballs that had some cut to them. Breaking ball was sharp with 10/4 movement and potential to be a power type pitch at 74-76 mph. Showed fastball arm speed on his changeup and the pitch had good sink on it at 77-79 mph.
