The Poolesville Falcons used a three run bottom of the sixth inning to get a late 4-2 victory over the Walkersville Lions on Thursday in the opening round of the MPSSAA 2A tournament West Region.
Poolesville was able to take an early lead in the first inning when 2021 OF Stevie Orsini was able to drive an RBI single to right field early to take a quick 1-0 lead.
Both sides would remain quiet through the game as starters for each side as Thomas Fogle (Walkersville) and Owen Brill (Poolesville) would cruise through the game as both side remained quiet through five innings. In the top of the sixth, Walkersville would finally strike hard as Jaxson Brust would hit a clutch two run go-ahead home run to right in the inning and the Lions would be on the board with the lead.
Poolesville would immediately respond as they got their first two hitters on base in the bottom half of the inning and Orsini would strike again tying the game up with another RBI single to right center and would advance to second on the throw from the outfield to the plate to get Poolesville 2nd and 3rd with no out. A wild pitch and bases load walk would add two more and take the lead 4-2.
Tommy Miles would close the door in the top of the seventh to preserve the victory.
Poolesville will now travel to Middletown in the Section II semifinals for the MPSSAA tournament.
